Bob was as mercurial as the city he loved, often working at D&L at 70 Pine Street to the wee hours of the morning, stepping out to an outdoor fire stair to admire 40 Wall or 20 Broad, marveling at the pulse of lights or the magnificent harbor in the middle of the night, taking the measure with special interest in all that was part of the public realm. Robert was a very great part of my life while I lived in Park Slope (Carroll St. from 1956-1976, and I was sorry to read of his death. He devoted his life to Prospect and Central Park, as well as being very active in putting Park Slope on the map.

While I haven't talked to him for many years, I'll still miss him.
