Robert Martinson Obituary

Robert Edwin Martinson
January 26, 1945 - February 23, 2022
McDonough, Georgia - Dr. Robert (Bob) Edwin Martinson, DC
It is with great sadness that the Martinson family announces Bob's six-year journey with Alzheimer's disease and other health issues ended on February 23, 2022. Although their hearts are broken, there is a sense of peace that the difficult "Long Goodbye" has reached its final farewell. Bob passed away peacefully at their home in McDonough, Georgia, with his loving wife by his side. They moved to Georgia in October 2019, seeking a lower cost of living and less expensive in-home care for Bob. There was never a plan to place him in a nursing home, as he would receive better and more loving care at home.
Bob was born to Robert (Bob) and Edna Martinson in Tacoma, WA on January 26, 1945, joining his sister, Karen Jean. His younger years were filled with family, friends, and sports. From an early age, he was involved in several different sports, where he was often mentioned and pictured in the Tacoma newspaper, especially for his pitching abilities in baseball. Bob attended Tacoma schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1963. He enjoyed reconnecting with his classmates at their reunions and other events. Bob attended Central Washington College in Ellensburg, Washington, intending on majoring in education. However, after a long talk with a mentor, he decided on chiropractic and went on to graduate in 1969 from Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. While living in Davenport and going to school, Bob met and married his first wife, Carolyn, in 1967; they had three children together and divorced in 1977. After graduation, Bob moved his family to Everett and started his 41-year chiropractic career working for Dr. William Lucas, Sr., at Everett Chiropractic Clinic. After Dr. Lucas' retirement, Bob ultimately opened his own office, retiring in September 2011.
Bob and his wife, Eadye, were married on April 4, 1981, enjoying a simple, but fun life together. Bob was the chief cook and grocery shopper, with Eadye playing handy ma'am around the house. They enjoyed finding and trying out new recipes together on the weekends and also spending time working together in their yard. Their lives were forever changed when their first granddaughter, Alicia, was born in 1989; she was followed nine years later by Alexis. Bob thoroughly loved them both, giving each girl her special memories of time spent with him. Although Bob was a quiet man most of the time, his quick wit and wry sense of humor were epic, causing laughter whenever he showed that side of himself. Those lucky enough to be exposed to his humor will have warm memories to keep in their hearts.
The Martinsons had plans to travel and fully enjoy retirement; unfortunately, those plans were put on hold forever after Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016. Although Bob's journey has ended, the family's journey has just begun. Bob will be loved and missed forever.
Bob leaves behind Eadye, his wife of 41 years; daughter, Karen Koehler, son, David; granddaughters, Alicia and Alexis Martinson; sister Karen (Gary) Northrop, nephews Joe (Kim) Northrop and Fr. Jim Northrop; and two great nephews and one great niece.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Edna Martinson; grandparents; daughter, Pam Martinson; and several aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on July 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at Purdy & Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home located at 409 W. Main Street in Monroe, WA. Reception to follow; location TBD.

Condolences to Eadye and the Martinson family on the loss of Bob. I was a patient of Bob's when he started his own office until I moved to Arizona in 1999. One of my memories since I have been a car buff all my life was when Bob had a Mustang convertible and the white leather interior became bad after sun exposure. I told Bob not to buy a new factory leather kit but I knew of a person that did leather restoration for car dealers. Bob had it done at a great savings.
