Robert W. Mayforth

MAYFORTH, Robert W. 87, of Largo, joined his wife of 64 years, Anne, in heaven, when he passed peacefully in his home on Jan. 27, 2011. Robert was born in Springfield, MA and was raised in Indian Rocks Beach. Robert lived a full and vital life. He worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps as a teenager, helping his family as he learned a trade. He joined the Marine Corp at 17 at the onset of WWII. He fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and in Okinawa. Upon returning from war, he married Anne Marie Boden, who he remained married to for 64 years until her death in 2008. They resided in Bayonne, NJ for many years, where he became a police officer for the New Jersey Transit Authority. He excelled at being a police officer and quickly moved up to the rank of Lieutenant. He retired from the police department after 30 years of service. Robert leaves behind a daughter, Theresa Mangelsdorf, of Largo; a sister, Barbara Trowell; a brother, Joseph Mayforth, both of Georgia; 4 grandsons, Shane Mayforth of Tampa, Justin Pollack, and Ryan Mangelsdorf, of Largo, Charles Mangelsdorf Jr. of Pinellas Park and a great- granddaughter, Mariah Pollack, of Largo. Robert's love of life and of country as well as his giving spirit, will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
