Robert “Bob” Jay Mershon,74, of Denton passed away on January 30, 2019 at his home. He was born on March 17, 1944 in Oakley, Kansas to James Frederick and Ruth Alouise (Davis) Mershon.
Bob graduated from Hill City High School, Hill City, KS in 1962. After which he served in the US Navy for 4 years. He graduated magna cum laude from Texas Wesleyan College in 1971 playing baseball all 4 years achieving NAIA All American status in 1971. He was later inducted into the TWU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. He enjoyed success as a self-employed homebuilder in the DFW area from 1977 to 2005. A man of few words, he left his impact on others with his wisdom, integrity and dry wit.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christine Seward Mershon of Denton; daughter, Misty Kay Mershon Penuelas of Norman, OK; son, Scott Mershon and his wife, Danielle; brother, James Mershon and his wife Jolene. He is preceded in death by his mother and father.
A Navy committal service will be held at the Dallas / Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:30 AM.

I was in high school with Bob. I remember him being a kind, quiet on the surface guy. He always had a good laugh. Am so sorry for your loss. Hope it helps you to know he is remembered by many as a good person. My prayers are with all of his family.

Bob was my classmate in high school. He was popular without being flamboyant and was elected Class President our Sophomore and Senior years. His athleticism in all sports was remarkable and won him respect on and off the playing fields.
Bob was a champion in many ways.

I remember Bob from our school days at S.S. Dillow Elementary School and William James JHS. I do not recall the exact school years, maybe 1954- 1958, grades 5-8. I do not remember the year he moved out of Fort Worth. During these years I always remember that he was a great at playing football, basketball and baseball. Plus he was a great guy to be around.
