Robert Miller Obituary

Robert Gene Miller LEXINGTON Robert Gene Miller, 66, passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease on November 13, 2016. He was the son of the late Homer M. and Beulah Dooley Miller, and foster son of A.J. and the late Connie Dooley. Robert was the devoted husband of 41 years of Susan Paul Miller, loving father of Paul Eric Miller and the late Joseph Robert Miller, and proud father-in-law to Alana Kanipe Miller. Robert was "Grand Dem" to his beautiful grandsons, Jonah and Caleb Miller, whom he loved passionately. Robert was brother to Bert (Cindy) Dooley; Allen (Lynn) Dooley; Sandra (Mike) (deceased) Parker; Nancy (Gregg) Tarlton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and a nephew, a biological brother and two biological sisters. Robert was a lifelong resident of Lexington, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on finance. Robert was a commercial lender, branch manager and Vice President of Lexington State Bank. Later, he was employed by BB&T, Carolina First, and Palmetto Savings Bank, but his allegiance was always to the "Biggest Little Bank in South Carolina." He was a former member of the South Carolina Bankers Association, Lexington Jaycees, Lake Murray Recreation and Tourism Board, and the Boy Scouts of America. Robert was a member of St. David Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Church Council, Finance Secretary, Stewardship Committee, and Lutheran Men in Mission, where he served as President. He was an outdoorsman, a sports enthusiast and a devoted South Carolina Gamecock fan. Robert was welcomed into heaven by the loved ones who passed before him including his biological parents, his foster mother, biological brothers, brother-in-law and nephew. What a sweet reunion it was when he was greeted by his hunting buddy and adoring son, Joseph. Robert's spirit will live on through the many stories and memories shared with his dear Supper Club friends and through the lives of his family. His gentle spirit, quick wit and generous heart will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A celebration of his life well lived will be held at St. David Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. with the burial at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Commons Area of the church. I live in Columbia but go to Lexington often. There is never a time I go there that I don't see something that reminds me of Robert and those memories are all wonderful ones. Many have said he was one of the finest. I totally agree that he surely was. I still miss him. I know his family does and I continue to wish them the very best with their wonderful memories of a dad and husband.

Susan, Paul and family. How sad we are about Robert. He was such a great friend to me and my family. He was one of the finest people I have ever known. He and I have laughed together and cried together. Robert was simply the best. I have missed him for a while now and it is comforting to know he is in a greater place. He waited a long time for his home going. God Bless you all and God bless Robert.

Susan and family, please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this really challenging time. Robert was a very good man, and I know that you have countless wonderful memories of times with him. It is truly my belief that as long as a person is loved and remembered, they do not really leave us. So Robert lives in your heart and mind. I also believe that God gives us strength to bear whatever comes our way so KNOW that He is there with you and supporting you now and forever. Further, Robert is basking in the presence of our Lord and Savior and is restored to a life even better than the one he had here on Earth. Know that you are loved and remembered in prayers. Susan and Paul,
Robert was truly the best that the class of 68 offered the world. Like everyone , I have many fond memories of our time together as classmates at Lexington and Carolina, umpiring Little League baseball, attending football games, and of course the wonderful class reunions that he spearheaded. He was the glue that held our class together in the early years and we will always remember him for all he did but especially for being a friend. In every sense of the word he was a good man.
He will never be forgotten. God bless.
