Robert MOORE Obituary

News Death Notice

MOORE, Robert James Of Centerville, Ohio, has died peacefully in his home at the age of 66. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Herbert R. Moore and Frances M. Moore. He is survived by his brothers, William R. Moore of Portland, Oregon, Richard H. Moore (Jami) of Suttons Bay, Michigan, his nieces Catherine A. Ward (Brian) of Centerville, Ohio, and Tamilyn A. Thompson (Nicole) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and grand nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Bob attended Mackinac College and Ohio State University. Upon joining the Air Force, he received specialized training in Wyoming and Oklahoma prior to assignment in Thailand during the US involvement in Southeast Asia more than four decades ago. As base historian, he cultivated an appreciation of history that he continued upon his return to Centerville. Bob's career in computer graphics allowed him to do specialized work for the Centerville-Washington Township Historical Society. He produced numerous graphics and maps, restored historic photographs in disrepair, and collaborated on the book, "Normandy Farms: The Land and Legacy of Richard H. Grant, Sr." He acted in community productions and portrayed Dr. John Hole in patriotic Centerville-Washington Township Americana Festival parades. His friends in the 21st century have come to know that Bob's quick, wry, sometimes irreverent wit masked a big, generous, and sensitive heart. The family will hold a private burial service in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he will be interred in the Moore family plot. Memorial donations in Bob's honor may be made to Centerville-Washington History. Arrangements were completed by TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Far Hills Chapel.

I'm so saddened to hear of Bob's passing...he was truly a gifted, amazing man. I lived across the street from him on Buckland where I was fortunate to hear and be a part of his music. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Bob, I was wondering where you went and knew I didn't want to go looking for you. Sa Wat Dee my friend. We can always say it was an interesting adventure. Thank you for all of those memories that have made life so worth living, we did have some entertainment value and it didn't matter how lost we were. Safe travels, say "Hey" to Ron and no worries, I'll see you guys soon.

Just noted this obituary of my former friend Bob Moore while doing some Google searches of people I had known during my Air Force years. I worked with and was a friend of Bob at F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming in the early 70s. He was an original. He loved music and played the piano, guitar, and banjo. This sounds crazy but he invented MTV before MTV was invented he would turn off the sound to the television and play music that matched the TV action. Bob invented the term marshmallow rock to describe the difference between bands of the time like the Carpenters and James Taylor versus Lead Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Bob off course was a marshmallow rock fan himself and the songs he played on the guitar and sang were gentle and sincere. During this time as Airmen we were regulars trying to meet girls at the Cheyenne Owl Inn and endless drives up and down Central and Warren Avenues, the Mayflower Bar, Little America, and of course the Airmen's Club at F.E. Warren which in the early 70s was the only place to buy 3.2 beer which was legal if you were under 21. The last time I saw Bob was probably in 1976 when he had returned from Thailand and was stationed in Oklahoma. I am so sorry I didn't stay in touch.

I have known Bobby since we were 12. We were in classes and band together, and met up again in the 1980s when I returned from five years in Canada. Bobby agreed to read my eulogy at my husband's funeral, a short time before I attended his father's funeral. He was one of the kindest, funniest, and most intelligent guys I have known--a true Renaissance Man. I will miss him, his sharp wit, and his smiling eyes. Rest in peace, my friend.

Our Condolences to the family, friends and everyone else effected by Bob's passing. Bob was a dear, sweet, sensitive soul. He had music in his heart running in his blood through his veins. Bob lived with our family just after his service in the Air Force and later established "Buckland" here in Connecticut with my brother Ron and friends. He kept us all updated and informed of happenings in his life and reminisced frequently about his family, childhood and nieces whom he was particularly fond. We will forever miss our frequent chats and remember him with the deepest of love and fondness.
