Robert Rich Obituary

Rich, Robert W.
Robert William Rich, 89, a long-time resident of Greenwich, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 15, at The Village at Waveny in New Canaan.
Born in Greenwich on January 17, 1927, Bob was the youngest son of the late Rocco (Riccio) Rich and Marie Christensen. He served his country as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy from March 1945 until being honorably discharged in July 1946 and worked for many years as a mover for several local moving companies. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and was a loyal supporter of the UConn women's basketball team. He loved drawing, collecting U.S. coins and was interested in local history. Bob will be remembered as a man who was truly devoted to his family as well as for his beautiful flower and bountiful vegetable gardens. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Rich (Andrew) DeRosa of Stamford, his son, Robert (Susan) Rich, Jr. of Stratford, four grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kevin DeRosa of Stamford and Hannah and Libby Rich of Stratford, his sisters, Florence Rich of Stamford and Gloria Krahn of Barre, VT, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in July 2013 by his wife of almost 54 years, Margaret (Pat) Rich, and his sister, Grace, and brothers George, Leonard and Charles.
Calling hours will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT. The funeral service will be private. I lived in Cos Cob and worked at Dunkin Donuts after school some 40+ yrs. ago where Mr. Rich was a customer. He left such an impression on me. He was a sweet, kind man. I would see him walking home from work with his lunch box or outside his house by his lovely garden and give a beep/wave. To this day when I drive by Orchard, I vision him in my mind. Such a nice man!
My condolences to the family,

Maria and Family

Dear Karen and Family,
How sad I am at the passing of your dad, Bob. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend to my family and I for many years, and he will be missed very much. He was an avid gardener, having one of the most beautiful gardens in Cos Cob; I used to admire it daily. May God rest his soul; he will be in my prayers.
