Robert Fulton Sharp Jr., M.D.

1938 - 2024

Robert Fulton Sharp, Jr. M.D. born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 13, 1938 passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024 at Christwood in Covington, Louisiana. Dr. Sharp was the husband of Susan Mary White Sharp; father of Michael Robert Sharp; stepfather of Britton Hall Miller; step-grandfather of Hunter Emmett Hall and Lily Davis Miller; brother of Kathleen Sharp Theriot (Don). Dr. Sharp was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. Sharp, Sr. M.D. and Florence Durand Sharp; his sisters, Sandra Sharp Clark (Jay) and Judy Sharp Cobb (J.B.). Dr. Sharp graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in 1956, attended W&L University and Tulane University 1961. Dr. Sharp graduated from LSU medical school in 1965. He completed a two year surgical residency at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and a three year urology residency in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Sharp served as a Major in the United States Air Force in Tucson, Arizona before joining his father's private urology practice in 1972. Dr. Emmanuel Rivas III and Dr. Robert F. Sharp, Jr. (Rivas & Sharp) enjoyed many years together, serving the community from 1972 to 2016. He enjoyed the friendship of many of his patients. Dr. Sharp was an active member of New Orleans Country Club becoming an Honorary member, playing golf and tennis with many friends. He also was member of the Boston Club, Pickwick Club and previously the Bienville Club. With Bob's warm smile and friendly nature he was always fun to be with. Bob was kind, patient, calm, determined and always followed through on any task he undertook. His real excellence was that he did not have a mean bone in his body and he never held a grudge against anyone. Therefore, he enjoyed an exceptionally happy life. Together, Bob and Susan cared for their eight Long-haired Dachshunds during their marriage. Bob had a passion for the adorable little Dachshunds. He cared for them every day and they adored him. Bob's other passion was LSU Sports and his favorite pastime was sitting on the sofa with Shayla and Joy, who had no choice but to bark and bear it, and watch the games together. He said he wanted to cross the Rainbow Bridge on the way to Heaven and he most certainly did. Dr. Sharp will miss everyone and we will miss him.
