Having travelled through this area for several years and working nights on the railroad it was always heartwarming to hear Bob and Jay and their early morning antics, and have them inform us how things were from the WOWO fire escape vantage point.

Bob, for the many hours of entertainment and enjoyment you gave us through those many years, may your reward be rich and may your deserved rest be in peace. 73 & QRT.

My uncle was one of Bob's avid listeners; so in 1988, I asked him if he had any public speaking engagements that we might attend. Bob said no, but he would come to Heritage Park Nursing Home and visit with the residents. Much to our pleasant surprise, he came early and spent an hour privately with my uncle talking about their WW II days and left an autographed picture. What a generous gentleman. He truly brightened up the day for many.

I remember my mom taking me to Fort Wayne from Garrett to see Bob Sievers in front of Babbers jewerly store doing the "One Moment, One Moment Please" show. I also remember when he had this person call in one morning and say he was going to kill himself on the air. Bob kept him on the air and tried to calm him down. He was such a loved person. I always felt he was "Mr. Fort Wayne". Friends and Family you have our condolences.

My dad, Ray Chausse, and Bob were childhood friends. I can remember as a child visiting family in Ft. Wayne and my dad taking me down town to be on Bob's man-on-the-street broadcast. I will always have fond memories of that. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Bob Sievers Family
I have many pleasant memories of the Little Red Barn with Bob, Jay, and Nancy Lee and the Hilltoppers.
Although he is gone, his voice is heard on WOWO today which conjurs up memories of my childhood.
May Bob rest in peace, memory eternal.

In the early '80s Bob decided that his beloved West Highland Terrier
"Molly" should have a family reunion. So with his help, we gathered all the Westies in FtWayne for several summers at Lions park for photos and fun.
Lots of memories of him with Molly
remain to this day.
My prayers go out to Hariette and Family from the person Bob called the Westie Lady.

Fifty seven years Bob Sievers got me into the U.S. Navy reserve. Forty years later I retired. When
Bob had the program "One Moment Please" my mother and I would go
down to see him every chance we got. No words could express our
feeling for this man. I know that
"God" has taken him to his just reward.

I so sorry to hear about Bob Sievers. He will be missed by all of us who grew up listening to hlm on the radio. Even enjoyed his travel lot he did. Now the legend will live on in the memories. Thanks Bob for all you have done for us and the penny pitch.

My deepest condolences to the Sievers family. I grew up with the WOWO family from 1948 to the late 1950's as my father was the WOWO morning news anchor man known as Bob Carlin. His sign off at the end of every newscast was "Good Luck, Good health and 73." The "73" was ham radio lingo for "Best regards!".

Bob Sievers, Jay G., the Hilltoppers were all part of a great team. When dad died in 1991 Bob Sievers was the first person through the door on the day of calling at the funeral home. What a blessing that was for our entire family.

Bob was a very important person in my fathers life and I rejoice in having the privilege of knowing him from the time I was five years of age. Thank you Bob and Harriett for the role you played in my mom and dad's life. Bob will be missed but his legacy lives on. Praise be to God!

Harriet and Family:
Bob and my Dad, Homer Evans, were very good friends as my dad worked at the transmitter for 29 years. Bob was an example of humility, integrity and love. While he may have had a great God-given talent with that booming voice of his, it was they way that he used that voice to give back to the community that will be remembered. The entire Evans family loved and admired Bob. I can just see my dad helping Bob tune up his 75 meters rig up in heaven as we speak. God Bless all of you.

I just finished watching the special that channel 39 aired on Bob and the WOWO Legends. I grew up in Huntington and listened to WOWO every morning. Bob Sievers had a calming voice and as with every child, we listened with bated breath for the school closing. Bob Sievers and the WOWO family was an important part of my childhood. To Bob's family, I send my thoughts and prayers. He was a man with a big heart and you have much to be proud of.

Bob was certainly a good friend to the people of Fort Wayne and the listeners to WOWO. I was fortunate to have known him through our mutual friend, Ron Gregory, and through Bob's support of the Stardust Dance Band, a Big Band which played in the area for about a decade or so, and in which I played while I lived in Fort Wayne. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched over his lifetime.

Victor Locke

September 5, 2007

For seven years in the late 70's and early 80's, Bob Sievers was often the first person I spoke with each morning, as we would prepare for the "Little Red Barn." It was with great sadness I learned of his death Monday. Please allow me to share some of my fonder memories of Bob.

I'd often arrive at the station earlier than Bob as he'd stop at Powers Hamburgers on the way in to buy some donuts. He steadfastly denied he dined on Powers sliders that early in the day.

This was a man with a heart bigger than most. He was truly concerned and interested in others, and was particularly concerned about the less fortunate to the point he'd literally give the shirt off his back. I recall during the WOWO Penny Pitch one year, a gentleman obviously down on their luck stopped by and made a donation to Penny Pitch while Bob and I were staffing a remote site. Bob, of course, struck up a conversation, and by the time it was over, Bob had removed his coat and gave it to this fellow, so he could stay warm.

WOWO had a policy against doing lost dog announcements, but don't tell Bob that. His first priority was always to the listener, and those of us in the newsroom early mornings would often get phone calls about lost dogs and forward the info to Bob. He'd then sneak the announcement on the air, often telling listeners he wasn't supposed to do that. Then he'd tell his listeners he was "stuffing that lost dog in his shirt pocket so if they found it, give him a call and he'll put them in touch with the owner." In addition to a big heart, Bob had large shirt pockets!

Though Bob was known mostly for his work at WOWO, with its huge signal, he was also known world wide over Amateur Radio airwaves as W9FJT, or as he called himself, Fifty Jumping Tigers. Bob had what Hams like myself often refer to as a "boat anchor" of a radio in his basement, comprised I surmise of some old AM Radio parts from WOWO and built with the help of long time WOWO engineer, the late Homer Evans. He admitted to me once that each time he would transmit, Harriet would comment about the lights dimming in their modest Sherwood Terrace home.

Bob will be missed, but remembered fondly in many hearts. My condolences to Harriet and the rest of his family.

Bob Seivers was simply a darn good human being, period!
From his humble beginnings, he was destined to be a true fort Wayne legend!
In Meeting "Mr. Wowo" in 1982, he struck me as a genuine Personable figure who was a true lover of people and in fellowshipping with him in 1984, he proven in that situation and the times after that he was a consistently thoughtful person!
Bob clearly reminds me of my godfather, Chicagoland broadcastlegend, Jesse Coopwood, and I can say Bob did have a bit of
"soul" for his "stroll"
In closing on my heartfelt thoughts regarding "Mr Wowo" Bob, for a summit city legend was clearly the Morning broadcaster that "the best that did it and got away with it" and a personality that was "threw with it, before some of us that got to the mike, "Knew what to do with it"!
Bob, when u run ito your friends Jack Underwood, R. Nelson Snider, John Richbourg and numerous others u have touched on this earth--Tell em that "ole J.c" says "Hi"

While growing up in the late 50's & early 60's, I'd listen to Bob Sievers and Jay Gould every morning before school. the radio was tuned to WOWO constantly. Bob,
I remember your radio shows from way back when I was a kid walking downtown at age 13 and beyond. You would be at the corner of Berry and Calhoun. Then there was the radio show that the whole world listened to. You, Jay Gould, Nancy Lee and the Hilltoppers etc. What memories you have given thousands like myself. The city of Ft Wayne will certainly miss you. Not to mention your considerable time spent supporting the WOWO Penny Pitch for so many years. Rest in peace Bob.

I conducted funeral services for both mother and father of Bob while pastor of the Parkview Church of Christ. He was the product of two genuinely humble and genuine parents, and, although I wasn't in touch with him since leaving Ft. Wayne in 1969 when I accepted a pastorate in Denver, Colorado, remember him well from his early broadcasting years as a native of nearby Ohio on WOWO. My condolences to his family, and my prayers for his safe arrival at his eternal destination.

Chris and I would like to offer up our condolences at this time. I know Chris will tell you of many great memories growing up in the WOWO family with Bob. He has brought a lot of people many of smiles while recalling all the great stories Bob used to tell on the radio and at his travelogues. He was a very kind man not only to the people around him but also from listening of stories when it came to the concerns of the welfare of animals. God bless your soul Bob and thanks for the memories you have left us with. And personally I have a lot of great memories from listening to the radio growing up near Harlan, Ind. We always had WOWO on when milking the cows. God bless you your family and friends who come to celebrate your life. Chris and Lisa Underwood
