Robert Taylor Obituary

Robert H. Taylor

January 20, 1931 - August 27, 2025

Robert H. Taylor, affectionately known as Barber Bob, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus with family surrounding him, singing "Oh, How I Love Jesus" on Wednesday, August 27. Born January 20, 1931 to parents Frank and Kate Taylor in Lewellen, Neb. Bob graduated from Lewellen High School in 1949, then attended Barber School in Omaha, Neb. He barbered in Kearney and Lewellen, before serving in the Marine Corps for four years, including one year in the Korean War. In 1954, he began his career as a barber in Lincoln, owning both The Clipper and El Toro barber shops, as well as the Roffler franchise. He trained barber professionals across Nebraska and Wyoming in specialty razor cuts and hair products. The franchise became the largest dealership in the United States before he retired in 1992. Bob was voted "Nebraska Barber of the Year" by his peers in 1961 and was appointed to the Nebraska Barber Board by Governors Thone, Nelson, and Johanns. He enjoyed six months of retirement and then the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln asked him to help out for two months, cutting hair for veterans. Two months turned into twenty-five years of serving former customers and veterans, a ministry for Barber Bob to love people well.

Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Elks. He enjoyed organizing golf tournaments, ping-pong, table tennis, and pitch games. His final pitch game with the BBB (Barber Bob's Buddies) was only a week before his passing.

Bob's greatest decision was turning his life over to Christ in 1973 at the age of 43. As a result, he became an advocate for sharing his faith, serving in the local church, and supporting those in need. One of his favorite slogans was, "I love serving the underdog - those who are facing life challenges".

Bob joined his wife, Bev, of 67 years, the love of his life, in eternity when he passed away. Survived by his three children: Karen Bowling of Lincoln, Tom Taylor (Julie) of Omaha, and Linda Nettleton (Warren) of Lincoln; eight grandchildren: Jon (Kayti) Bowling, Jordan (Sarah) Bowling, Trevor (Lauren) Taylor, Drew (Emily) Taylor, Jason (Ashley) Nettleton, Thomas (Bailey) Nettleton, Julia (Paul) Damrow, and Tricia (Jarrett) Stoppel; and twenty great grandchildren: Mia, Zoey, Walker, Tatum, Egypt, Elysian, Sophie, Adelyn, Wylie, Cora, Noah, Harper, Camden, Taylin, Michael, Kaylyn, Eloise, Henry, Theo, and Collins. Sister-in-laws Kathy Brown and Aloha Pink and many nephews and nieces.

Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 30 at Southview Baptist, 3434 S 13th St in Lincoln. Visitation with family will be Friday, August 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial, 6800 S 14th. Condolences www.lincolnfh.com.

What a wonderful barber and friend he was. Bob cut my hair from the time he began at the VA until his retirement. His recipe for Christmas fudge was legendary. He always spoke lovingly of his wife and children. Bob brought me a small olive wood cross he picked up in Israel which will remind me of him. God speed.

Loved taking my husband to the VA for the best Hair /beard cut ever. Always good conversation. Such a kind, godly man.

Bob and my dad, Jack Andrews, were good friends. When I moved back to Lincoln after getting out of the Navy, I went to get a haircut from Bob. He gave it to me for free. He was a good man.

barber Bob, I would tip you a golf ball after each hair cut. You also would say " your time is up ,even though you had not finished the hair cut. Thank you for sending me a Birthday card each year. rest,in peace. you have earned it.

You and I asked Jesus into our lives in July, 1973. I remember it well. You were 48; I was 17. You are home with the love of your life and your Savior who you served well. You will be missed by so many. Well done, good and faithful servant.
