Robert Thein, 60, of Gloucester, Va. passed away while spending time in Florida with his wife and children. He was born in Akron, Ohio was was the son of the late veteran, James Thein and loving mother and Gloucester resident Lucy Thein. He is also preceded in death by his brother James Thein, also of Ohio.
Rob lived in Gloucester County for 25 years with his family where he enjoyed "tinkering" with mechanics, Camping, and fishing with family, and riding his motorcycle. He worked as a ship designer at N.N. Shipyard, and also owned a small hobby shop at Gloucester Point for a brief time. In 2007 he joined the American Legion Post 75 in Gloucester, where he quickly became a valuable and instrumental member of the group. In the legion he served as First Vice Commander of Post 75 for 2 years. His passion for riding and helping others lead him to be come a key leader in forming the American Legion Riders Post 75 (ALR 75). As part of the ALR 75, he served as director for 3 years, and created the annual "Never Forget" to benefit Wounded Warriors. Rob was also a member of the Patriot Guard Riders.
Rob was a loving and cherished husband, father and friend. He loved a good laugh, telling a good story, and was a dedicated member of the community.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Barbara Thein, daughter Jessica Thein and son Tom Thein.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, may 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home by Rev. James Cowles. Burial will be in Windsor Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
