Robert Walters Obituary

Robert William Walters

Cary

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert William Walters of Cary, NC (Raleigh 38 years previous) announces his passing on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the age of 81 years. "Bob" will be lovingly remembered by MaryAnn, his wife of 60 years, and his children, Bob (Peggy), Linda (Norman), and Kris (Mark), as well as his brother Ronald Walters and sister Barbara Walters, both of San Diego California. Bob will also be fondly remembered by his ten grandchildren, Robert (Maureen), Steven, Kenny (Mandy), John, Sarah, Nicole, Laura, Marianna, Leslie, and Thomas, and his great grandchild, Holden.

Bob was known for his easy-going, "jokester" style personality. He was a dedicated husband and family man who loved spending time with his family and enjoyed traveling, swimming in the NC Senior Games (achieving over 80 gold, silver and bronze metals) and volunteering his time and talents to organizations including the Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels and the Knights of Columbus, as well as always being a ready volunteer for church activities. In addition, he was a Korean War veteran and worked for IBM for 34 years.

A private family funeral mass will be held in memory of Bob with interment at the columbarium at St. Raphaels Catholic Church in Raleigh, where he was a founding member.

Memorial donations for Bob can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 225 N. Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 or the SPCA of Wake County at 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.

I really enjoyed knowing Mr. Walters while he lived here in Wilmington, NC over the years. He had a unique way of making you laugh and feel good and some of the moments I remember, still make me laugh out loud to myself. He was a fine man, who loved his family and friends, and for me to have had the pleasure to have known. Lots of fond memories I have with him being present at or participating with some fun activities here in Wilmington. Especially the times he would come to our cub scout's meetings and the events and also just the fun times I will always remember with him participating with his family and his daughter, Kris and his grand children, John and Sarah for parties and get togethers. He sometimes would not say anything about something, but you could glance at him and he had a twinkle in his eye and then a smile would come up and you knew what he was thinking with all the crazy kid activities happening at the moment! Ha ! He was a good sport all the time I ever knew him and I will surely miss him. :)

Dear MaryAnn and Family,
We are so saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was a great man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather! We know that he will be greatly missed by all of you and may God grant all of you his peace during this time of great sadness. Having lived through Bob's struggle with Alzheimer's with both Dail's mom and then my mom we know that your loss began long before last Saturday. We hope that you can now find peace and joy in that Bob's is with God and no longer suffering. Now is the time to dwell on all of the wonderful times and fun that you had together. May the Good Lord Bless Bob and the entire Walter's family. Lovingly,
