Robert Wood Obituary

Robert James Wood

1952 ~ 2024

Salt Lake City, UT-Robert (Bob) James Wood, a.k.a. Woody, 71, passed away Saturday morning January 13, 2024. He was born August 17,1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Benilde-St. Margaret's High School in St. Lewis Park, Minnesota and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. Bob was nearing eleven years as a proud kidney transplant recipient. Being immunosuppressed, he died after several complications, including Covid. Despite years of physical challenges, he always persevered and lived life to the fullest. He described himself as "Husband, Father, Adventurist, Lover of the Land and its People". No truer words could describe Bob, than his own.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Wood. Surviving family members include Kellie Wood (wife of 33 years), Olivia Wood (daughter), Keely Kelleher (bonus daughter), Sisters; Carol Knight and Mary Beth Piedrahita (Sergio), Mother-in-law, Kay Schultz, Brother-in-law, Bill Schultz (Anna) and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob's genuine love of people was infamously expressed with his gift for gab. He cherished visiting and sharing stories with friends. He found success using his gift in his career as a professional salesman, developing beautiful friendships that lasted his lifetime. He was proud to be the Voice of the Cottonwood Club's Swim Team and an Advocate for Arts and Indigenous People of Utah.

Bob's passion for the mountains of Utah was forever constant. He especially adopted Little Cottonwood Canyon and Moab, winter skiing and summer hiking. True peace and joy was his with a day on the mountain with family and friends. His hearts delight was knowing that his daughter, Olivia, was an avid skier that could keep up with her Dad! He was so proud of all her accomplishments and interests, and enjoyed that he could live vicariously through her! In recent years he enjoyed being a Scout. He would drive around the West in his FJ looking for new places to share with everybody, especially Kellie. He was well known for returning with the fruits of nature: melons, peaches, beans, tequila, and other treasures to give to others.

We will miss hearing Bob's booming laugh, beaming smile, and requests for a heart-to- heart hug before saying farewell. To all of us, he'd say, "Thanks for skiing"!

Memories and photos of Bob can be shared at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/11625859.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Alta Community Enrichment (ACE) Alta, UT, https://altacommunity.org/ or Bears Ears Partnership, Bluff, UT, https://bearsearspartnership.org/.

He would also ask that people consider signing up as an organ donor.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 19, 2024, at St. Vincent's de Paul Catholic Church at 1375 E. Spring Ln. Holladay, UT. A private celebration of Bob's life with friends and family will follow.

OMG.

Definitely NOT what I was looking for when I searched for the man I just always called Woods. Bob, Robert, Mr. Wood. A grown man with a grown woman child that skis like us!! OMG!

It dawned on me as I was sitting here this evening. That Woods was my last >great< living contact that I can share Platou stories with. So I went to Google. Seems like Bob actually beat Kenny in 2024... Sheesh.

I´m really shaking now. I´m also shaken. I need to talk to somebody out there. If Bob was happy with the way you ski Olivia, then you and I have something very strong in common. Not to mention we could discuss Snowbird pros who cons.

I´m not a weirdo out in cyberspace. My co-friends K. Platou, and Martin and Dusty and even the infamous Blythe Snow.... I can tell you maybe a half a dozen other names. And then all about the trip I took to Edina to go play on Platou´s boat. It might take longer to tell the stories than it did to live them...

Ahh shucks. This happening way too often, eh?

I almost can´t say the following because it´s such a humungous understatement. Here goes.

(Bob) Wood(s), in my world, will be oh so sorely missed... especially now that I´m a little late... the holes in my heart keep appearing. I´m patching them over with gratitude that I feel for the knowing of more than a few people that honestly have Great Hearts.

Oh man, this Does sting!

My prayers for the great hearts will fill my camp this morning. I´ll say some for everyone, and some just for Woods alone. And then I´ll say some prayers for Platou and Woods together, ... , etc. Saying any names of the kids I met at the University of Snowbird. They are loved and I miss `em more and different from any words added here could ever express.

Peace and love Bob Woods.
Respect.
Peace and love family and friends.
Respect.

Bob explores Mesa Verde NP. Bob introduced me to the Ancient Ones in Southern Utah. We spent many years hiking, camping, and backpacking in search of rock art and ruins. Fantastic memories! Thanks, Bob! I´ll never forget you.

Bobbie...
It wasn't until your "Celebration of Life" that I was aware of the many talents you possessed and some of your many accomplishments in life! I felt very honored to be part of the outcropping of friends and family that came to honor you and show their love, and their loss of a special person in their life.
The picture of Christmas at the Woods' will always be etched in my memory as a highlight to a special time of year when families get together. I am very proud to have been treated like a part of Woods' and Schultz family for many years now!
I hope that those of you who knew Bob will always keep him alive in your hearts and memories and remember the positive things that he added to us all.
I will say Aloha brother for now, but remember it is only until we meet again... Brent

What a good, good man. He seemed to have some special power to know exactly what another person needed, and then give it to them. That's how he was with me. His light was always so bright.

Love~

"When he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
