Pastor Robyn J. Gool, an anointed man of God, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 18, 2022. He was born in Detroit, Michigan as the middle child of Curtis and Thurma Gool on February 11, 1953. His siblings are Marty, Catherine, Sandra, and Fyllismarie. Pastor Gool accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 9, but really made Jesus Lord of his life while attending Oral Roberts University on a tennis scholarship. It was there that he was exposed to the baptism and gifts of the Holy Spirit and accepted the call of God to preach and teach the Gospel. He met the love of his life, Marilyn Ann Burrows during his second year at ORU.
Robyn and Marilyn were married December 28, 1974 in Nassau, Bahamas and became a powerhouse team for the Kingdom of God. While he was serving as pastor in the Methodist church, God told him to start a new ministry. In July of 1980, Victory Christian Center was birthed to serve Charlotte and the surrounding areas. Pastor Gool loved the city of Charlotte and has worked to do everything he could reach the area with the Gospel message and the love of Christ.
Determined to carry out the vision the Lord put in his heart, Pastor Gool had Victory Christian Center start and operate numerous in-house ministries and outreaches, including radio and television ministries, Victory Christian Center Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High Schools, and More than Conquerors College.
Many students of VCC went on to become a catalyst for positive change in the world in various fields. The success of his vision to "give God another generation" is also evident in the fact that many of the current school and ministry staff are graduates of Victory Christian Center School. Pastor Gool authored eight books, two of which have been used by churches as required reading for ministry of helps.
In 1998, Church In The City began as VCC's first satellite church, founded to meet the needs of Charlotte's inner city. In November 2006, a women's shelter was added to help alleviate the burden the Salvation Army had with an overwhelming number of homeless women. The C.I.T.C. Women's Shelter was able to house 50 women and has been a means of blessing many women in transition over the years.
More Than Conquerors College has graduated many students from the USA as well as overseas. Some that came from foreign countries have gone home to make an impact in their native lands. One of those persons, Joseph Nananikom, met Pastor Good while interpreting for him in remote locations in the nation of Thailand. Joseph's daughter who was 2 years old when his family came here to live while he attended MTCC recently graduated from our college. He was healed of malaria because of listening to Robyn teach the Word while he was interpreting.
The Missions Department touches and changes countless lives locally, as well as overseas, meeting tangible, as well as spiritual needs. Locally, in addition to meeting basic needs of food and clothing, the Missions department has worked with the needy to help them improve their lives. Workshops and individual training assisted people in getting jobs or better jobs to improve their circumstances. Over the years, mission trips and various endeavors stretched Robyn's impact to the international level. Condolences and expressions of gratitude have come in from several countries, giving evidence of how far his ministry reached to meet the spiritual and tangible needs of people. He was a strong supporter of our local pregnancy resource center that helps support women going through a crisis that includes pregnancy so they would not think their only option was abortion. Most people have no idea how much he accomplished as a vessel of the Lord because he never advertised what he did, and never looked for credit. While his life and ministry touched and changed so many lives in the name of the Lord, he stayed down to earth and humble, always giving God glory. After he was honored with a doctorate degree from Indiana Christian University, Pastor Gool returned to Charlotte and told his congregation "I'm still Pastor Gool." He wanted them to know they were not required to refer to him as "Dr. Gool."
Robyn and Marilyn biologically had 3 children (Robyn Johms, Marilyn Joi and Sanchia Jentle) and 11 grandchildren, but God used Pastor Gool to be a father figure to church members, students of the schools, and youth in the ministry who referred to him affectionately as "PG". He was also like a father to many pastors. As was prophesied about him many years ago by the late Vickie Jamison-Peterson, he was a pastor to pastors. He never announced that or tried to make it happen, but it came to pass as the Holy Spirit said. His love for pastors that was shown in a tangible way was evident when several pastors left their churches on a Sunday morning a few weeks ago to come to VCC and show their love and support for him during his physical challenge.
Pastor Gool had a sweet tooth and many members would bless him with cakes and cookies on special occasions. He also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed supporting the VCCS basketball teams most of all. He was an honorary sideline and behind the bench coach for the varsity girls team for years and years and spent countless hours helping to teach and train the athletes. All 3 of his children played basketball at VCCS and were MVPs. He would never miss one of his children's games, not even for speaking engagements to preach. He was one of the team's biggest fans, even attending games up until the week before he went home to Glory.
On a personal level, he participated in numerous sports during his life and excelled in them all including, tennis, table tennis, basketball, football, softball, bowling, and his latest pool. She shared many wonderful fond memories playing these sports with church members and friends over the years.
Pastor Gool knew he was not a self-made man and let others know that he was who he was not only by the grace and help of God but because of so many deposits put in him by strong fathers in the faith. He had personal relationships and was influenced heavily by might men of God such as Lester Sumrall, Hilton Sutton, Oral Roberts, Fred Price, P.T. Rentie, and Terry Mize, who served as mentors and spiritual fathers.
His most significant last words were "There will be fire!" It was not connected to anything else. He seemed to be on the edge of eternity and seeing something prophetic.
