Roger Stanley LEVITAN

LEVITAN, Roger Stanley 83, attorney and former Chairman of the Arizona State Bar Tax Section, passed away last Tuesday evening September 27, 2016 at Tucson Medical Center. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., he graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with an undergraduate degree in finance and commerce, and went on to receive his law degree from Columbia Law School. Following his graduation from law school, he practiced law in Washington, D.C. and New York for nearly two decades, becoming head of the Washington, D.C. National Tax Practice of the accounting firm Main Lafrentz, and subsequently, head of the tax department at U.S. Industries in New York. During his time in Washington, D.C., he was an active member of Woodmont Country Club, where he was elected club Secretary. In 1976, he moved to Tucson, where he continued to practice tax and estate planning law for another two decades, principally at the law firm of Bilby & Shoenhair (later Snell & Wilmer), where he was a partner. He served as counsel to the Tucson Community Foundation and the Jewish Community Foundation. While he remained a devoted Washington Redskins fan until his death, Tucson was his home for nearly 40 years, and the place where he met his wife, Lori, and raised his two sons, Mark and Brandon, all of whom survive him. He considered his three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Dylan, and Drew to be the greatest grandchildren that ever were. For those who loved him, he cannot be replaced.
