I served with Roger in Chu Lai, South Vietnam,'65-'66, Delta company, 1/7 Marines. He was a radio operator who "volunteered" to go out on foot patrol with the infantry in addition to his already assigned patrols.I know because I was often on the other end of that radio in the communication bunker taking calls for fire support. I know the sress and constant danger of those patrols and often heard the noise of a kill zone fire fight as Roger "keyed" his radio to request motar support. I served...

I've known Roger for only a short time, but he quickly became one of my favorite friends. I enjoyed the many games of cribbage and the great sense of humor Roger brought to the games. He was intelligent, thoughtful and extremely friendly and kind. I wasn't surprised to see that Roger had been a Boy Scout leader, he embodied the elements of the Boy Scout Oath and Boy Scout Motto as much as anyone I have ever met.

Some time after being discharged from the Marines in late February 1969, I began receiving mail that was directed to him but because we had the same name came to me.

As luck would have it, years later I had the great fortune to see him at a Marine Corps birthday celebration in New Bedford. Over the years we were able to meet at this event and have great conversations.
