Rolland Duffield Obituary
Palm Coast, FL - A funeral service for Rolland A. Duffield, 86, of Palm Coast, FL, will be celebrated on Thursday, October 19, 2017, 2:00PM at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home. Friends and family may visit starting at 12:00PM. Entombment will follow the service at Craig-Flagler Palms Cemetery.
Rolland passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2017 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on December 19, 1930 in Galesburg, IL to the late Leroy and Pearl Duffield (Harshbarger). Rolland was a Mason, attended college in Illinois, served four years in the US Air Force, married his sweetheart Maxine (Brooks) on 11/27/1954, and they had 5 children. He worked for Collins Radio, AC Spark Plug, and held several key technical and executive staff positions at IBM for over 25 years before retiring. He was very well respected in his career as Engineer, Technical Writer, and Manager. One small example of his accomplishments is that he contributed to the design of the Apollo Space Program guidance systems. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, pool, billiards, ping pong, golf, and tennis. In 2011 he and his wife moved to the Palm Coast, FL area from Hyde Park, NY. He loved his family and friends, and everyone instantly loved him. He was known for his hilarious, subtle, unexpected one-liners. Rolland and his sense of humor will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Maxine "Max" Duffield in 2016. Survivors include children, Steven A. Duffield of Palm Coast; Loretta and her husband James LeRoy of Palm Coast; David Duffield of Manchester, CT; William and his wife Renee Duffield of Brookfield, CT; Diana and her husband Robert A. Viggiano of LaGrangeville, NY; his beloved grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Jim, Joe, David, Fawn, Ryan, Adam, Alexander, Dean, Shane, Ashley, Kelly; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Sonny, Noah, Caiden, Jayden, Gavin, Ryan, Benjamin, Ryan, Leon, and Brynn.
