Not sure what to say?

Seems a little late for me to be throwing in my two-bit worth. Ron broke me into radio after my firing at the daily newspaper. He called me "Soul." He was one of those guys you would want with you in a foxhole. They are few and far between.

I HAVE LOTS OF MEMORIES OF FREDDY FROM BACK WHEN WE WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL.I WILL SHARE ONE.IN THE LATE 50S FREDDY GRADUATED FROM KENEDY HIGH SCHOOL IN KENEDY,TEXAS.HE WAS A YEAR OR SO OLDER THAN MYSELF AND LARRY PULLIN.HE STARTED OUT THE DJ STUFF AT KAML BETWEEN KENEDY AND KARNES CITY.ALL THE GUYS WOULD MEET AT HOMEYERS GAS STATION AFTER THEIR DATES.ONE NIGHT THE THREE OF US WERE THERE ABOUT 2AM AND DECIDED TO GO TO CORPUS.FREDDY HAD A '56 MERCURY HARD TOP,IT WAS ABOUT 40 DEGREES AND AWAY WE...

Ron was a loving caring Uncle. He was Uncle Fred to me. He was my namesake as I was named after him. We have many memories of growing up near him. He took us to the beach and to pick widflowers at Easter. We would call him at the radio station and he would dedicate songs to us. He was best man at my wedding. My condolences to the family. I'm sorry Sheryl. I will miss him greatly. In loving memory, Bobbye Lee

Ron was a loving caring Uncle. We have many memories of growing up near him. He took us to the beach and to pick widflowers at Easter for my parents. We would call him at the radio station and he would play songs for us. He was best man at my wedding. I will miss him greatly. My true condolences to his family. In loving memory, Bobbye Lee

I was a "young", musician wannabe when I first met Ron. It was during the KEXL FM radio days. They were a big supporter of "local" talent and we did many shows in association with KEXL. Ron was solid, sharp, funny and a gentleman. He would treat a "nobody" (like me) with the same respect that he would show a Willie Nelson or Leon Russell. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. We have lost one of the truly "great ones". My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and...

I had the extreme pleasure of working with Ron at KBUC during the late 70s and 80s. Ron was such a pro and would do anything to help people. He is one of the greatest voice over talents I have ever heard in my life. Rest in Peace my friend.

When I worked with Ron at KEXL I remember one time being with Ron and Willie Nelson backstage at a Willie concert. We had a lot of fun and I was blown away by how much of a fixture Ron was in the Texas music scene. The other thing I remember was Ron's big red Cadillac convertible, that brings back a lot of good memories. That was back in the 70's.
He was a good man and a good friend and I will miss him.

As a radio listener, I felt Ron Houston was my friend. i Loved his voice and his noon time "Bean Time". I would recognize his voice-overs anywhere, what a lengend. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. May he Rest In Peace.

I was also one of the lucky ones that knew "The Ron Houston" I was the receptionist at KBUC back in the 80's. He and I hit it off right away. We both being animal lovers. He would always say hello to my mom and dad when he was on the air. They would get the biggest kick out of that. I will miss that distinct voice. Cheryl, you will be in my prayers.
