Ronald Giroir Obituary

Ronald James Giroir, Sr., born on August 16, 1941, and passed away on February 22, 2022, at the age of 80 at his son's (Ruben's) house. He was born in Klotsville, LA, raised in Belle Rose and lived in Donaldsonville for most of his life. "Hook" (as he was known to many) certainly enjoyed family and friends, and had many to show for it. Ronnie loved his beer and a good joke, but being around people was his passion. For many years he enjoyed spending time at the camp, (his project), and later in life found LSU and Saints Football. He graduated from Assumption High School and served in the Army National Guard. He was a Sugar Cane Farmer for over forty years, (not counting his childhood years). Ronnie was a devoted Catholic who enjoyed passing the collection, and serving whenever asked or wherever he saw the need. He is survived by his three sons, Ronald Jr. "Jimmy" (and wife, Bing), Ruben (Regina), and Rodney "Rocky" (Melissa) Giroir; his neighborhood son's Andrew (Peggy) and Gerard (Beth) Frey, his five grandchildren, Chace (Katrina), Jie, Devyn, Alyssa and Cali; three great grandchildren, Charli Rose, Harleigh, and Kylee. Ronnie is also survived by his sister, Janet Tolleson, and brother, Richard Giroir (Lorain), and brother-in-law, Tommy Mistretta Jr. (Kathy), and their children, and by many of the Maher family include the patriarch Kenneth Maher. Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Pam Mistretta Giroir, his parents, Wilson and Gertrude Giroir, in-laws Tom and Marie Mistretta, bother-in-law, Jerry Tolleson, grandson, Dylan McClendon, and third neighborhood son, Kevin Boudreaux. Even in a weaken state, he still wanted to go visit with people. We will miss him in many ways. Funeral services will be March 1st and held at the Ascension Catholic Church, Donaldsonville. Visitation starts at 9:30am, and funeral at 11:00am.

My sympathy goes out to Hook's family Richard, Janet, Ronald Jr, Ruben, Rocky, Tommy and all of his daughters in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I have known Hook all of my life, as a kid in Belle Rose playing with all of our friends, in the boy scouts especially at Camp Salmon, grade to Jr high school at Belle Rose school to graduate of AHS in 1959. We used to "double date", he with Pam Mistretta and me with Pat Bahry (they were best friends) from Donaldsonville to our marriages to them. The military on Active Duty from February 1960 at Ft Knox, KY and Ft Gordon, GA ending our Active Duty in August, and the remaining years of his service with the National Guard in 1964. All of the beer drinking/supper/card games at Scoozie's pool house, Don Guillot's camps on Lake Verret and Stephensville, and his own camp on Lake Verret. I sent an email to 23 members of our AHS graduate class notifying them of Hook's passing along with a copy of the obituary a list of the 32 members, to include Hook, that have passed away, and a photo of him and Vernon Rousseau at one of our cookouts. All the replies were that he was such a nice friendly guy, but I received a reply from one of the members named Maria Elaina Aucoin Hebert that says she was born the same date as Hook on August 16, 1941, in Klotsville, LA probably at the same Hospital (only one) and delivered by Dr Billadeaux and his nurse (cannot remember her name). I hadn't seen much of Hook since the passing of Pam and his medical issues that had him move in with Ruben, but at a supper at my brother-in-law Don Guillot's place in Donaldsonville a couple of months ago, we got to sit, drink a few beers and remines about the old days. There was something in the tone of his voice or the fact that we couldn't look into each other's eyes that said the end was coming. Hook was liked/loved by all who really knew him. I know that he and I had a bond that could never get broken, only interrupted for a while when one of us leaves, and I look forward to having it restored. May God bless my friend Ronald J Giroir Jr (Hook) and forever hold him in the palm of his hand. With a heavy heart, I know that he is with Pam and my Patricia today.
