Ronald Noel Smith

LANCASTER: Ronald Noel Smith, 85, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Lanfair in Lancaster.

He worked for Central Ohio Federal Savings and Loan in Columbus and moved to Lancaster in 1970 to work for Equitable Savings and Loan from where he retired after which he worked with Jones Cochenour and Company.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a long time member of the choir. He was also a member and past president of Sertoma where he helped establish a sister club in Russia. Ron initiated the Shelby High School Class of '47 Scholarship Fund. Many students have benefited from this generous program.

After graduating from Otterbein University, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Ron was a long standing member of the Fairfield Historical Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and he coached Little League. He gave generously to many charities. He was a founding member of the "Do Nothing Club".

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, William Noel and Florice Smith; brother, James Smith and "the love of his life", his wife of 61 years, Peg (Margaret).

Ron is survived by three daughters, Judy Smith of Lancaster, Christy White (Brian) of Lexington, OH, and Terri Fosnaugh (Richard) of Fredericktown, OH; three grandchildren, Laurie Kays (Shane) of Rushville, Matt White (Tyline) of Pataskala and Becca Geib (Seth) of Perrysburg, OH; two great grandchildren, Aydan Noel Kays and Owen Andrew White; brothers, Paul Smith of Wake Forest, NC and Fred Smith (Mary Sue) of Galion, OH; sister-in-law, Shirley Smith (James) of Atlanta, GA and his dog, Lishka.

A celebration of life will be held 1 pm, Saturday, March 21 at the First Presbyterian Church. With Reverend Mathew Richardson officiating. The family is being served by the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to FairHoPe Hospice and the First Presbyterian Church.
