Rosa Munguia Obituary

Rosa P. Munguia Rosa Pena Munguia, age 89 died Saturday, July 28th, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas after a long illness. Born on September 1, 1922 in Alice Texas, Rosa Pena was one of eleven children, raised in hard times with a strong work ethic. She met and married Alonzo D. Munguia in 1940, and they shared a loving home for 58 years. Always independent, Rosa was the first of many notable young women who became leaders at the forefront of the Methodist Church's Society of Christian Women, and later widely recognized for her work and teachings. Active throughout her lifetime in the Rio Grande Conference of the United Methodist Church, Rosa lived her life as a powerful testament to her faith, a beautiful Christian feminist ahead of her time, in an ongoing fulfillment of her Christ-like ideals. During her professional life she worked over twenty years as a Teaching Assistant with Child Incorporated, imparting a love of stories and songs, while instilling confidence and pride in young disadvantaged children of Austin. Mrs. Munguia is preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo; her parents; four sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel M. Hernandez and husband, Raymond Jr. of San Antonio, Rebeca Munguia of San Antonio, Emma Munguia and husband Chuck Baldridge of San Antonio, Linda Munguia Nease, of New York City, and A.D. Munguia, Jr. and wife Ellen, of Austin; eleven grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren; younger sister, Paulita Duarte and husband Joe, and her eldest sister, Mrs. Tina Salinas of Kingsville. A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm with a Wake Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1st, at Weed Corley, Fish Funeral Home at 2620 S. Congress. Funeral Services to be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2nd at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, located 2nd Street and Brushy, with Reverend Edward Garcia officiating. So much love she gave to us all and always kept our mother's spirit up. They shared so many good times especially the trip to New York. As my sister Isy says she paid a beautiful tribute to her friend, Dora, during her last days. They surely are angels in heaven now. She will be dearly missed. Our condolencies and love to the Mungia family. God be with each of you. Love, Gloria and Isy

One more Angel in Heaven! This one's eyes sparkle and she has the best smile! I may not have known Rosa well or long, but it didn't take either of those things to know what a BEAUTIFUL lady she was. Big hugs to the whole family (just like she taught me!).
