Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home - McKenney Obituary

Rosa Pritchett-Wynn, lovingly known as “Bitty,” peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on the evening of August 19, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones in McKenney, Virginia. She was born on July 16, 1927, to the late Lillie Pritchett. After her mother’s passing, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Taylor and Rebecca Pritchett, whom she cherished as “Momma & Poppa.”

She was educated in the Dinwiddie County Public Schools. At an early age, Rosa accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Mt. Level Baptist Church in Amelia Courthouse, VA. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, shown through her attendance at sunrise services, her love for church hats, and her dedication to missionary work in surrounding churches and neighborhoods. She also found joy in worshiping at Little Bethel Baptist Church of Stony Creek, VA, and especially appreciated the ministry of Rev. David L. Banks Sr.

Rosa was united in holy matrimony to the late William M (Peter) Wynn, with whom she shared 58 years of love, devotion, and the strong foundation of family.

Rosa was a woman of grace, hard work, and purpose. She worked at Fort Pickett and later devoted over 40 years as a trusted in-home nanny, caring for and helping to raise many children, especially within the family of Mrs. Jane Daniel. Through this work, she became a cherished part of many households, extending her love beyond her own family.

Earlier this summer, Rosa was honored at her 98th birthday celebration, surrounded by family and friends. Her life was rich with simple joys—tending to her flowers, cooking her famous fried chicken and potato salad, playing games on her tablet, and sharing her home and heart with those she loved most.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lucy Howard and Willie Anna Davis; her son, Alex “Choke” Pritchett; four grandsons, Roswell, Tronell, Wilbur, and Richard; and one great-grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Rosa Johnson (Thomas) of McKenney, VA, Barbara Wynn of McKenney, VA, Geraldine Winn of Petersburg, VA, and Lillie Mae Pritchett of Petersburg, VA; two sons, William Wynn of Blackstone, VA, and James “Jimmy” Anderson of North Carolina; and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Pritchett of Amelia, VA. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, thirty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were her pride and joy. Devoted granddaughters Yolanda Winn and Ciera Marsh ensured that “Granny” was well cared for, even during her hospital stays. Rosa also shared special bonds with her devoted nieces—Darlene Howard, Gracie Mason, Barbara King, and Mary Prosise—and her cousin, Antoinette Woodley.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her caretakers and in-home nurses: Holly Malone, Sheletta Malone, the aides of Adult Healthcare Solutions, Trish Dixon, the special dietary aide and Crater Community Hospice for their compassion and care. Special appreciation is also given to Juan Hargrave, her favorite delivery man, whose kindness and visits always brought her joy.

“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” — John 14:2–3

Rosa Pritchett-Wynn, “Bitty,” will be remembered as a woman of faith, strength, and unconditional love. Her presence was a blessing, and her memory will forever live in the hearts of those she touched.

The funeral service for Rosa Wynn will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Mt. Level  Baptist  Church, Amelia, VA. The Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Public viewing will be from 12-7 pm  on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the McKenney Chapel of Johnson's Funeral Home.
