RUBEN BITTER

Ruben Albert Bitter, born in Fresno, Ca. on July 15, 1923, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, after 16 year post-stroke illnesses. He graduated from Edison High School, attended Fresno State College, and University California, Davis before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving on Iwo Jima. He had a career in advertising for Ackerly Ent., later with Gannet Corp. He was a member of Fresno Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shrine Temple and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his father, John George Bitter; and his mother, Katherine Horch Bitter; brothers, John V., Gottlieb, Conrad, Gottlieb and sister Emma all born in Lauwe, German Republic in Russia, and brother-in-law, Don Winder. He is survived by his wife Josephine M.; son, Robert N. Bitter, DMD and his wife Laurie of Glenview, Il.; granddaughter, Katie Roland, M.D. and husband Mark, of St. Louis, Mo; grandson, Jeffrey Bitter and wife Stephanie, of Chicago, Il. He is also survived by his brothers, Phillip and his wife Shirley, Robert L. and his wife Helen, Norman C. Bitter, DDS, and his wife W. Joyce, sister, Alvina M Winder, all of Fresno and brother, Harold R. Bitter and wife Carolyn, of Pacific Grove. A Memorial Service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or your favorite charity.
