Ruby J. Steadman

Ruby J. Steadman November 7, 1928 – July 26, 2013 Ruby Jane Steadman of Grand Junction, passed away on July 26, 2013. Ruby was born on Election Day, November 7, 1928, in Delta, Colorado to Casper and Mildred (Quint) Holzmeister. She attended school in Delta until moving to Montrose, where she graduated from Montrose High School in 1946. Ruby had two children, Sondra and Gary. She married Marvin L. Steadman on May 17, 1958. Gary and Marvin preceded her in death, along with two sisters, Edna Kinsey, and Claire Sutherlin. Ruby worked in downtown Grand Junction for 40 years at various stores, including Keith O'Brien, Sweetbriar's, and Liff's. She took great pride helping her customers, many of which become lifelong friends. She was very active in her church, Immaculate Heart of Mary. She loved singing in the choir and she was a member of Catholic Daughters. She volunteered with Catholic Outreach and St. Mary's Hospital until her health no longer permitted her to continue. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Sondra "Soni" (David) Durham; three grandchildren, Amy Byington, Angie DeMars, and Shad Durham; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth "Izzy" Trinklein, Eric Trinklein, and Victoria Durham, whom she loved with all her heart. Her brother, Bob (Mary) Holzmeister, also survives. A funeral Mass will be held on August 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and burial will follow the Mass at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose. So many special thanks to the caring staff at The Commons who showed Ruby so much love the many years she spent with them! Her family would also like to thank the amazing Doctors and Nurses in the ER and ICU at Community Hospital who treated her with love and respect in her final days.
