Russell "Rusty, Gravy" Cassell, age 53, entered his Heavenly Home on April 3, 2025. Rusty was born on June 19, 1971 and was a lifelong resident of Glade Spring, Virginia. Rusty was loved by family and his numerous friends and will be deeply missed.
Rusty was a Christian, believed in God and was always praying for others. He enjoyed living, had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Rusty worked at Abingdon Auto for the past 8 years as a long distance transportation specialist.
Rusty is preceded in death by his father and stepmother; grandparents, John and Gray Dishman and Charlie and Louise Cassell; cousins, Tommy Hurley Jr., Robert Burke and Anita Dishman; and stepsisters Monica Kennedy and Vickie “Chub" Dobson.
Rusty is survived by his mother, Betty Cassell of Glade Spring, Virginia; aunts and uncles, Jo Ann and Jim Hopkins of Blountville, Tennessee, Debbie Dishman and Bobby Davison of Saltville, Virginia, Mary Lynn and David Sessor of Saltville, Virginia, Jerry and Minta Dishman of Saltville, Virginia; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Tammy Garrett, Lisa Anderson, Joy Henderson, Ricky " Whistle" Mumpower, Mike "Sput" Mumpower; special lifelong friend, Brian Burke. Rusty also had a faithful companion, his fur baby, Festus, who went everywhere Rusty went, as well as numerous special cousins who loved Rusty dearly.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service will be on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Jim Hopkins, special uncle Jerry Dishman, and Jason Mullinox officiating. The committal service will follow at Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jerry Dishman, Jeremiah Dishman, Daniel Dishman Michael Kestner, Jerrad Sessor, Brian Burke, Ricky Mumpower, Mike Mumpower, and Dennis Waddell.
