Ruth Abramowitz Obituary
Asbury Park - Early on the morning of May 10th, Ruth Abramowitz, age 97, of Asbury Park, N.J. died peacefully in her sleep. Ruth was a beloved member of her community and a beacon of light to all who knew her.
Ruth was born on July 24, 1920, on a farm in Phillipsport, New York, daughter of Morris and Yetta (Hecker) Jobrack. Ruth married her sweetheart, Jack Shapiro, in 1942. The marriage ended in Jack's tragic death and widowed at 25, Ruth summoned the strength she showed all her life and returned to both secretarial and volunteer work. In 1948 she married her childhood friend, Seymour Abramowitz and they raised a son, Jerry. Ruth was widowed once again in 1993.
Ruth is predeceased by her beloved son, Jerry Abramowitz who passed in 2014, and three of her siblings, Sylvia (Jobrack) Sweigman, Leonard Jobrack, and Martin Jobrack. She leaves her younger sister, Reida (Jobrack) Lipton and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Ruth was fulfilled by her service to others. She lived a life of volunteerism beginning as a teen and continuing to adulthood actively involved with the Hadassah, The Workman's Circle, and in the late 1990's as President of the Jewish War Veteran Auxiliary of Asbury Park-Ocean Post 125.
From her early days on a country farm, Ruth's life took many paths including, her years living in the Alaskan territory, as an early settler in "America's last frontier". Ruth, a member of the Bradley Beach Writers Roundtable was a skilled and prolific writer, publishing essays that expressed her unique voice both online and in local newspapers, including The Asbury Park Press Crossroad, The Jewish Voice, and The Coaster. In 2007, she published her collection of essays, From Horse and Buggy to the Moon: 1920-2006, a composite of family history, observations on life and love and her consistent message to the world: "Life for me means . . . making mistakes, bringing joy, facing sorrow and continuing to learn from it all."
Services to honor and celebrate a life well lived will be lead by Rabbi Aaron Schonbrun on Monday, May 14th at 8:45 am at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean, NJ. Interment will follow at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton, NJ. Bloomfieldcooperocean.com

I enjoyed Ruth's company. We had many serious conversations over lunch. She was a thoughtful, astute, and determined woman. Her life was well lived, and her faith in God and humanity unshakable.

I knew Ruth from the Wed. writing group at the Bradley Beach Senior Center where she contributed her stories and was a faithful attendee.
