Ruth Wren Obituary

Ruth Marie Wren (Brown)

Ruth Marie Wren (Brown) was born a gem on July 17, 1930 in Graham, TX and passed away a diamond in El Paso, TX on Nov. 16, 2019. She is the well respected daughter of Marshall Edward and Flora Lee Brown. Ruth was a personality worth getting to know and was a true Texas gal in every aspect of the word. She was a great athlete and loved to play basketball (Go Brownie!) and be outdoors. As a strong member of the community of El Paso, she served as one of the first female health inspectors in El Paso and went on to work as an educational and training supervisor with the El Paso City/County Health District for many years. She retired in 1991 and edited and published the Wren Kin Newsletter, winning second place twice in a state competition. In 1995, she discontinued the publication and taught Genealogy at the Life Long Living Center at UTEP (1996, 2000-2001). She remained a student and occasional surrogate teacher with UTEP and EPCC, writing on various subjects, including poetry and nonfiction. She was a member of the El Paso Writer's League and won awards in their annual writing contests in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Along with poetry and her love of reading and writing, Ruth always loved family and the lineage that comes with it. As a genealogist, she truly enjoyed helping others realize the importance of family history. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Wren Taylor and one of her sons, Robert Wren. Ruth will be joining her beloved husband, Bobby Joe Wren, and two of her sons, Lee Roy Wren and Russell Wren, in a peaceful journey through the beautiful clouds of heaven. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and the City of El Paso! Ruth was an inspiration to countless people and had many family and friends that enjoyed seeing her smile and listen to her life lessons from her front porch. RIP to the most beautiful Wren bird we have ever known.

I was blessed to have been able to hang out with my Great-Aunt Ruth on her porch a few times when I had passed through El Paso. She was a very loving person and someone that would tell you like it was. You will be missed Great-Aunt Ruth, but will never be forgotten. Rest in Paradise with Great-Uncle Bob and our other loved ones in Heaven. I love you! I pray for our Father in Heaven to send His Angels to comfort my cousins and other Wren kin during this time. In Jesus name, Amen. Sending love and hugs from San Diego, California. Love Helen Montalbano.

I have and always will treasure our time together grandma , we were best pals for a long time . I remember showing you my first published football article in the Father Life magazine and tears welling in your eyes saying I knew you could do it BJ ...and shortly followed by pointing out a few corrections that I needed to make that our editor had missed lol. Her smile made you feel better , more complete. I will miss her wit and charm more than anything else . Say hi to dad for me .
