I would like to correct my first post. Sam Jones was my idol growing up in Brooklyn in the 60’s and not my friends. He was Mr Clutch so many times the Celtics needed him to make that big shot. . As I said, he added a lot of happiness to a young man’s life, and I had a good cry when I found out he had passed. I send my deepest condolences to his family.

I grew up in Brooklyn in the 60´s and Sam Jones was one of my friends sports idols: I did not know until today that this humble giant of a man had passed. You send my heartfelt condolences to his family, and will always cherish his memory!

Got know Sam personally in 1974. The most genuine and honest person one could be.

During our conversation on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, you were trying to tell me something, I now understand what you were trying to say. You were a wonderful basketball player, close friend, and truly a better humanitarian.

As one of ten children growing up in Portland, Maine I took refuge in broadcasts on a local AM radio station, listening to the underachieving Red Sox and overachieving Celtics of that era. I adored Bill Russell, John Havlicek and the Joneses--KC and Sam. The latter was never the top dog of that team yet, when the dust settled, he was the second most successful not only in team history but in league history.
