United States Army Retired, Sgt. Sam W. Wright, age 70, of Rome, passed away on Monday morning, April 11, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Chicago, IL, on March 4, 1946, son of the late Paul Samuel Wright and the late Alice Louise Friot Wright. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree and his Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 101st Airborne Special Forces in Vietnam. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Wright, Rome; 2 daughters, Winnie Anne Wright, Little Rock, Arkansas and Sheri Wright Harris, Springfield, Illinois; a sister, Sarah Lou Kmett, Springfield, Illinois; and a grand-daughter, Miranda McLean.
Interment with full military honors will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois at a later date. The family may be contacted at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the arrangements.
