SAMUEL STROCK Obituary

STROCK, Samuel Of Swampscott, passed away December 5, 2018 at the age of 90. Loving and beloved husband of Geraldine (Condon). Dear father of Bruce Strock and his wife Debbie of Lincoln and the late Rick Strock and his wife Suzanne of Cape Neddick, ME. Adored grandfather of Adam, Aliza, Jacob, Michael and his wife Heather, Bryan, and Alexandra. Dear great-grandfather of Teddy. Loving brother of Lorraine Siegel of Brockton and the late Bernice Freedman. Also survived by his dear nieces Terry Weaver and Debbie Shastany and nephew Steven Freedman. A graduate of Brookline High School and the University of Maine, Sam was proud to be a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He was also very proud to receive the award for 2013 New England Produce Person Of The Year which was presented to him at the New England Produce Council's annual expo. He was the President of S. Strock & Co. for many years. He started working in 1950 in the family produce business which was established by his grandfather, also named Samuel. In his early years he worked with his father, uncles, and cousins. Later he loved working with his sons Bruce and Rick, and most recently with several of his grandchildren. He will deeply miss all the wonderful employees of S. Strock & Co. where he continued to work until this past January, when he started to have more difficulty getting around. Then he would call daily to see what was happening, and he asked that daily sales reports and the trade newspapers be brought to his house so he could still enjoy the business. Sam loved people and people loved him. He was kind and thoughtful and generous and extremely well respected in both his personal life and business. He was very quick coming up with one-liners and loved telling them, and those he was with loved hearing them. His grandchildren especially enjoyed his quick and funny wit. He was a big Red Sox fan who read the sports page in the newspapers first thing in the morning. He liked exercising on his stationary bike and using his free weights. He enjoyed playing golf or going to the driving range on the way home from work to hit a few buckets of balls, even when the weather was cold. He will be terribly missed by his dog Angel, whom he doted on and adored. The family would like to thank his caregivers who have helped immensely at his home the past few months. Service and burial will be private. If you wish to make a donation in Sam's memory, please consider Camp Casco, P.O. Box 330, Sudbury, MA 01776 (campcasco.org), one of many organizations his company helps to support. Stanetsky Memorial Chapels www.stanetskycanton.com

Mr. Strock was a kind, gentle soul. Back in the 60's, both of us former Sharonites, I went to summer camp with Bruce. Mr. Strock was always always a mensch.
