SANDRA KAYE FLIRIS HAMMOND, IN
Sandra Kaye Fliris, 74 years young, of Hammond, entered into eternal life on Saturday September 28, 2013 at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago after battling strokes and other sickness for many years. Sandra was born on August 21, 1939 to Cecile LaForte and George Beasley in Carbondale/ Murphysboro, IL. She attended Fenger High School in Chicago and was married to John Fliris in 1955. Sandra was a Security/ Emergency Dispatcher at LTV/Arcelor Mittal, Indiana Harbor West for 36 dedicated years and a was a member of Local 1011 East Chicago, IN. Sandra supported United Way Charities for many years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to the gambling boats and traveling to Wisconsin to visit with family members and friends. Sandra leaves behind a legacy of five children: John Michael (Cindy) Fliris, Jeanette Mishelle (Mike) Pudelek, Jeff Mitchel (Gaylyn) Fliris, Jacqueline Marcell (Ronald) Reid, and Jamie Marie (John) Warosh; 24 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; loving brother, George LaForte; half brothers and sisters; Aunt Mae and Uncle Bill; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; best friends: Pat and Bob Westfall; wonderful neighbors who always cared for and watched over her; devoted caregiver and angel, Elizabeth, who not only cared for her but loved her deeply. Sandra was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; mother, Cecile; life father, George LaForte; father, George Beasley; grandson, Ronald Reid Jr.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 7:30 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory, 14 Kennedy Ave. (corner of Main and Kennedy), Schererville with Pastor Ryan McDowell officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Donations in Sandra’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at donate. americanheart.org.
