Sara Louise Biggs Wells
1921-2013
Sara Louise Wells, 91, died Thursday, March 21st, in Santa Maria. She was born July 17, 1921, in Amory, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert August Wells, and parents Joseph Warren Biggs and Clara Bell English.
Sara was beloved by all who knew her and will be remembered for her sacrificial service to God, church and family. She was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she earned a Master of Religious Education degree. Throughout her life she served as a pastor's wife and Sunday School teacher, with a special heart for the mission field. She worked as a public school teacher in Washington, California and Nevada and together, with her husband, became Literacy Missions Associates, setting up two literacy centers in Santa Clarita, CA, and teaching English to students from over 21 countries. During these years they also trained over fifty tutors. Sara has always considered this experience as one of the most rewarding in her long life of accomplishments. Throughout their lifetime of ministry, Sara and Bob also helped to start 43 churches, three district associations, and the Nevada Baptist Convention.
Sara's overriding joy however, taking precedence over her lifetime of work, was her family. To know Sara was to know her love and pride in each member of her growing family. The importance of family heritage inspired her to create an extensive family tree album of the Wells and Pettigrew histories over many generations as part of the legacy she leaves behind.
She is survived by two sons, Joe Hal Wells and Bill Alton Wells; a daughter, Clair Helen Williams; seven grandchildren, David and Rebecca Wells, Joel, Chris, and Sean Wells, Jeremy and Brian Williams; six great grandchildren; Caden and Andrew Wells, Dustin and Kayleah Williams, Andrew and Ellie Williams; a sister, Eleanor Twombly; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family that were very dear to her.
Services will be held Thursday, March 28th at Lifeway Fellowship, 2627 Skyway Dr., Santa Maria, with viewing from 4-6 p.m. and a Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be Friday, March 29th, at 1:00 p.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall, where she will be laid to rest alongside her life's partner.
