SHELTON: Sarah C. (Patti) Abate, age 97, entered eternal rest on October 22, 2023, in her home.


     Sarah was born in Manhattan, NY on April 30, 1926, daughter of the late Calogero and Providenza Vinciquerra Patti. She was employed at the former Uniroyal in Naugatuck and later as a senior clerk for the State of CT at the Ella T. Grasso Center in Stratford, until her retirement. A devout Catholic, Sarah was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia where she served as past president of the Rosary Guild and member and former secretary of St. Ann’s Society. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Mary’s Church in Derby, the Third Order of Carmelites at St. Lawrence Church in Shelton and led the recitation of the Rosary at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Trumbull. Sarah loved her family and enjoyed swimming at the Shelton Community Center. 


     She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Frances Borkowski (Thomas) of Chesterfield Township, Michigan and Rose Marie T. Spatafore of Ansonia, grandchildren, Gina D’Ambruoso (John) of Oxford, Lori Rasile (fiancée Michael Smith) of Branford, and Brian Borkowski (Diane) of MI, five great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Richard C. Spatafore, brothers, Nicholas, Louis, Orlando, Joseph, Anthony and Samuel Patti and sisters, Josephine Gilbert, and Carmen Caprio Marcucio. 


     Visiting hours will be held on Saturday morning, October 28, 2023, from 8:30 to 9:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Her funeral procession will then leave for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Sarah was my neighbor for over 30 years. I just learned of her passing today, October 29. My sincerest condolences to your entire family and friends. May God comfort you all.
