Woodfin Funeral Chapel - Murfreesboro Obituary

Dr. Satyen Suresh Saraswat, age 41, was the most kind, gentle, and generous of his entire family.  His patience was legendary, and it had to be growing up sandwiched between two sisters.  When he was not being forced to play Barbies with his He-man and GI Joe figurines, he was learning how to use humor as his quiet superpower.

Satyen unexpectedly suffered a massive heart attack on December 14th, and thanks to God working through the hands of Dr. Abu and the St. Thomas Rutherford team, Vanderbilt LifeFlight, Dr. McMaster, and the CVICU team, we were able to enjoy the heavenly gift of two more weeks to spend with our dear Bia.  He had a really good last week sharing hilarious jokes, big smiles, and much love, with enough improvement that he was expected to go to rehab.  That's why our family has been shocked to suddenly have this loss.  We are so grateful and blessed for this gift from God and ask you to please share your funny and personal memories of Satyen at [email protected] and in lieu of any gift or flowers, please consider donating to Sri Ganesha Temple or to the charity of your choice in his memory.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and Satyen's quest to keep all whom he cares about safe during it, we will have a ceremony with immediate family only at this time.

Satyen served his community as a hospitalist at Saint Thomas Rutherford and the Veteran Administration hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.  He was a caring, astute doctor and his patients loved him for it. His dedication to his work paled in comparison only to his love for his daughter, wife, family, and friends.  His closest friends were from his days on Quiz Bowl at Riverdale High School with whom he enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee and the card game Magic the Gathering. He double majored in biomedical and electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University and practiced as a financial consultant before deciding to pursue medical school.

Satyen will be sorely missed by his family including his loving wife Neha Saraswat, young daughter Kushi, his parents Drs. Suresh and Sudha Saraswat, and his sisters Sonal Saraswat Gupta (Raj, Kiran, Jaya) and Surabhi Saraswat Morrissey (Joe, Mira) who will strive to honor his passion, sense of humor, and generous nature.

Arrangements are under the direction of Woodfin Funeral Chapels and an online guestbook is available for the Saraswat family at www.woodfinchapel.com

Dr Saraswat was an amazing teacher. He would always find time to teach and educate us not only about medicine but also about the lessons of life. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to his Family. May the Lord guide his family through this difficult period. May his soul rest in peace.

Satyen was a priceless colleague and friend. He was always smiling and ever ready to help. A very kind, dedicated, smart and generous human being. He is gone too soon. May our hearts be filled with wonderful memories of him and may God grant us all strength and peace during this very difficult time. Keeping Neha, Kushi and the entire Saraswat family in my thoughts and prayers .

I just discovered this obituary, I am still in shock. Grief is so hard, especially, because he was so young and had such a caring personality. I do know that the special memories you have of him will help all family to cope. Remembering Dr Sayten Saraswat, and his family today and always.

Today I heard the news about Dr. Satyen. I'm not sure what to say exactly. My heart is broken for his wife, daughter, parents, sisters, and all of his family. He was such a good man and doctor. My husband and I were blessed to be his patients. I still haven't found a new PCP because he set my standards so high. I will keep his loved ones in my thoughts. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences go out to Sat's family and loved ones. Although Sat and I lost touch throughout the years, I am so thankful that I was fortunate to have met such a kind, caring soul. As a senior resident during my intern year, he left an indelible impression by so naturally exemplifying what it means to be a good doctor and person. He will be greatly missed.

John and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Saraswat family. He was a kind, caring, and competent doctor who always took the time to listen and explain things. This is a profound loss to his loving family and the medical community. You have our deepest sympathy.

Satyen & his wife has helped me through the most difficult years of my life. I have always called them my angels. Just when I thought there was no hope this couple helped and encouraged me. I am forever grateful to you both.
