Satyen Saraswat Obituary

Dr. Satyen Saraswat

Murfreesboro - Dr. Satyen Suresh Saraswat, age 41, was the most kind, gentle, and generous of his entire family. His patience was legendary, and it had to be growing up sandwiched between two sisters. When he was not being forced to play Barbies with his He-man and GI Joe figurines, he was learning how to use humor as his quiet superpower.

Satyen unexpectedly suffered a massive heart attack on December 14th, and thanks to God working through the hands of Dr. Abu and the St. Thomas Rutherford team, Vanderbilt LifeFlight, Dr. McMaster, and the CVICU team, we were able to enjoy the heavenly gift of two more weeks to spend with our dear Bia. He had a really good last week sharing hilarious jokes, big smiles, and much love, with enough improvement that he was expected to go to rehab. That's why our family has been shocked to suddenly have this loss. We are so grateful and blessed for this gift from God and ask you to please share your funny and personal memories of Satyen at [email protected] and in lieu of any gift or flowers, please consider donating to Sri Ganesha Temple or to the charity of your choice in his memory.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and Satyen's quest to keep all whom he cares about safe during it, we will have a ceremony with immediate family only at this time.

Satyen served his community as a hospitalist at Saint Thomas Rutherford and the Veteran Administration hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. He was a caring, astute doctor and his patients loved him for it. His dedication to his work paled in comparison only to his love for his daughter, wife, family, and friends. His closest friends were from his days on Quiz Bowl at Riverdale High School with whom he enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee and the card game Magic the Gathering. He double majored in biomedical and electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University and practiced as a financial consultant before deciding to pursue medical school.

Satyen will be sorely missed by his family including his loving wife Neha Saraswat, young daughter Kushi, his parents Drs. Suresh and Sudha Saraswat, and his sisters Sonal Saraswat Gupta (Raj, Kiran, Jaya) and Surabhi Saraswat Morrissey (Joe, Mira) who will strive to honor his passion, sense of humor, and generous nature.

Arrangements are under the direction of Woodfin Funeral Chapels and an online guestbook is available for the Saraswat family at www.woodfinchapel.com.

I just discovered this obituary, I am still in shock. Grief is so hard, especially, because he was so young and had such a caring personality. I do know that the special memories you have of him will help all family to cope. Remembering Dr Sayten Saraswat, and his family today and always.

Today I heard the news about Dr. Satyen. I'm not sure what to say exactly. My heart is broken for his wife, daughter, parents, sisters, and all of his family. He was such a good man and doctor. My husband and I were blessed to be his patients. I still haven't found a new PCP because he set my standards so high. I will keep his loved ones in my thoughts. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences go out to Sat's family and loved ones. Although Sat and I lost touch throughout the years, I am so thankful that I was fortunate to have met such a kind, caring soul. As a senior resident during my intern year, he left an indelible impression by so naturally exemplifying what it means to be a good doctor and person. He will be greatly missed.

I was fortunate to be able to be her friend, while receiving her attention every day while I was with the Covid. I did not know anyone so human, so professional, so good husband and father, showing a sincere and real love for them. For his entire family too. I do not know what to say. He was a wonderful person and a wonderful professional. As a friend there are no words generous and kind, humble and cheerful, a gift of life. My heart goes out to his daughter and wife, to his family and friends ... His memory will be with us forever.

I graduated high school with Sat. I was lucky to get to know him in Chemistry class our Junior year. During class, there was an accident and I had acid spilled on me. Along with our wonderful teacher, Mrs. Richardson, Sat and three other students rushed to wash the acid off my arms and legs in the sink. It is no surprise to me that Sat went in to the medical field. In a calm and gentle manner, he was able to take care of me. I will always remember his kindness and and willingness to help others. He will be missed.

I worked with him at ST. Thomas Rutherford. I don't believe I ever met or worked with a kinder Dr. He was a kind, caring individual, and always was willing to listen to what the (nurse) care giver had to offer regarding the patient. What a great loss to the medical community. He was a fine MD and man in general. I know he will be so missed. Much sorrow for his family.

Dr Satyen Saraswat was a mentor to me during residency. He not only taught us medicine but made us think of life after residency and other aspects of life that most people never bothered to discuss with residents. He was very generous, kind and professional at his work. He would buy food for residents and did not mind teaching residents in the middle of the night. My prayers are with his wife, daughter and parents. We will miss a rare gem.

Still difficult to process.Last spoke to Satyen on 12/14 Monday morning, not knowing it will be the last! Painful.
He clearly left a legacy by his interactions with people; patients, doctor colleagues, residents, nurses, cleaning crew; his humility; gentle nature ,always willing to help.
He truly loved his little girl, his wife, his parents and sisters. He truly will be missed.
May his gentle soul RIP.

While working on the weekends at the VA on 1A, when Dr. Saraswat would work...he often brought in doughnuts (goodies). When I saw him, I knew that no matter what may happen that day...it was going to be good. He was kind, thoughtful, took the time to listen and very knowledgeable. May the Lord give peace during this difficult time.

I was friends with Sat (I met him by playing cards together with Kent) and when my entire family was stricken with COVID in Sep he called and text me daily. I knew he was very busy but even so, he followed up with us for several weeks. He was kind and patient and provided us great comfort during a very scary time. He was a truly selfless person and will be greatly missed.

There are not enough words and there certainly was not enough time. Sat was more family than a friend to me. He went with us on our last family vacation in 1994, he attended every birthday party we have had for my child and he was a significant common bond that has helped keep contact with my brother. Sat was a fierce competitor that pushed people to try harder as well as be better sportsmen. I really looked up to him. One of the most amazing things about Sat is how much we expected of him and how he always managed to be just a little better than we expected. Few things maintain magic and wonder and he was one of them. I am so thankful I had an opportunity to know him for more than a quarter century, I will miss him always being on time, always being there when I called for help and most of all those small suppressed laughs he would do... I don't know if you would call them a snicker or a chuckle or what they were... I miss you Sat.

As a co-worker of Dr. Saraswat, I'll be honest, I was intimidated by him at first. He was so brilliant, took patient care very seriously, and could be stern. But as months passed by, I began to see the caring, honest, jovial, and thoughtful person he was and looked forward to his call nights. His beautiful daughter and my son were born a couple of weeks apart so we shared countless stories of burping, bedtime, and birthdays. He made it very apparent to everyone that she was the center of his world. I pray for his family that they will find peace and comfort with his loss. Dr. Saraswat will be greatly missed by all.

Dr. Saraswat was a gem. I looked forward to him being on call. He was very knowledgeable. His teaching style was gentle, yet stern with some joking jabs at the residents thrown in.. it was a beautiful thing to watch :) . I pray for his daughter. He beamed when he spoke of her. I’m sure he was a great father, and I’m sure he would have employed his same teaching style with his daughter, except of course he would he would have been more of a softie I bet. The world lost a good one December 26. RIP Dr. Saraswat ❤

Sat was such a bright and kind person. I had the privilege of being friends with him in high school. We played many fun games of Ultimate Frisbee during the summer between high school and college. I always remember those times fondly. Sat was a leader and always challenged the rest of us to better ourselves. I am grateful to have known him. To all of Satyen's dear family, I am so very sorry for your loss. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers these last two weeks and especially now, with his passing.

A simple, kind, respectful gentleman and extremely knowledgeable. He was very professional with his patients. It was a pleasure to see him sit at his patients level ( before the pandemic) and talk with his patients easing their fears and concerns in a very humble manner. Very respectful man. I admired his professionalism and was actually looking forward to telling him just that for Christmas, but instead found out he was hospitalized days after. May his soul Rest In Peace perfect peace. He was a GOOD MAN and A pleasure to work with.
To his family my deepest condolences and will keep you in prayers. Sorry for your loss.

David and I are so sad to hear about Dr. Satyen’s untimely passing. We have prayed for him (and you all) since learning about his initial hospitalization. We do not personally know him ( our youngest son does) but we have known Dr. Suresh for more than 30 years through the VA and he was my dad’s cardiologist and then mine, too. We will continue to remember you all in our prayers. Our hope is that God will wrap His loving arms around you as you walk this path. May He also bring you comfort through the many precious memories you have and in knowing that he touched so many with his life.
May the Lord bless you all.

I was shocked to learn about Sat's passing. I will always remember him as kind, passionate person with broad smile on his face and humorous sparkle in his eyes . We spend hours after AIM clinic was done for the day talking about his plans in life, love for his family, cooking, tropical fruit... I remember buying star fruit and passion fruit for him. He could barely wait to take them home and try them. Every time I buy a new exotic fruit, I think of Sat and how I would like to share it with him. Those special moments will stay in my memory for long time. My thoughts are with family and friends. May you have strength to recover from your great loss and learn to find joy in life again.
