Mrs. Carnes worked really hard to help me pass algebra II. She was very patient and encouraging. She always knew I could do it. I went on to study math after college and in graduate school, and I earned my middle school math teaching certification and teach special education students in Wichita. I'm proud to have had her for a teacher.

Sharon and I were class mates at Emporia High...we considered us as very good friends and tried out for first chair saxophone just to see who was the best!
Sharon helped me with my homework many times!
my memories of Sharon are priceless!

I have a lot of great memories of Mrs. Carnes and the math room at Olpe High (Class of '85). She was an amazing teacher, and I was proud to be one of her students when she got the national recognition that she so richly deserved for the Presidential Award.

Dear Keith and Kristin,
This is Kathleen, my mom Essie lived with Sharon at Homestead, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I loved meeting you both as we made our visits to Homestead and enjoyed those infamous bingo games. I will miss seeing you both but your love for wife and mother will always be an inspiration to me.

Carnes Family - I wanted to express my sympathy at the passing of Sharon. She was my favorite teacher at Madison High. I enjoyed math because of her and she pushed me to excel. She was a special lady. Randall Schankie, MHS 1974
