Sharon Schroeder Obituary

Sharon Kay Schroeder, 71, of Niwot, Colorado, passed away Saturday, June 29 after a long two and half year battle with leukemia. She was born to Floyd and Beryl Wright, Mar. 18, 1942, in Austin MN. Sharon graduated from Austin High School in 1960. She married Larry Schroeder in October of 1960, and they lived together in Rapid City SD, Mankato MN and Rochester MN, before relocating to Boulder CO in 1969 and finally moving to Niwot CO in 1981. In 1997, Sharon retired with over twenty years of service from the Boulder Valley School District, starting at Paddock Elementary School and then spending sixteen years at Boulder High School. At Boulder High School, she playfully called herself the "Voice of Boulder High" as she staffed the front desk, answered the main phone line cheerfully, among many other duties for the front office and the school. Sharon was a devout Christian and an active member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Boulder, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, a Boulder book club, her LOLAs (Ladies of the Late Afternoon), PLAY-GIRLS and Red Hats groups. She loved to travel with her husband, and they visited many countries and took seventeen cruises together throughout the world. Sharon especially treasured the holidays and special occasions with her grandchildren. She was loved by so many over the years as a wife, mother, friend and grandmother and for being a wonderful, caring, beautiful and very brave woman. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her so much. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, her husband's parents, her brother in-law Lyle Schroeder, her niece Danielle Johnson, as well as many dear friends. Sharon is survived by Larry, her husband of fifty-two and a half years and her two children, Robie Schroeder and his wife Karen of Broomfield CO, Randie Schroeder and his wife Dianne of Lafayette CO and her four grandchildren, Jared, Jordan, Corey and Hailey Schroeder. She is also survived by two sisters, Sue Tollefson and her husband Lee of Rochester MN, Lillian Rogers and her husband Fred of Mesa AZ, and her brother in-law Perry Schroeder and his wife Linda of St. James MN, as well many nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Leukemia Research Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, or to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. A viewing will be held before the memorial service from 9-11 a.m. Friday, July 5 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church (1680 Balsam Ave., Boulder CO 80304, 303-443-8477). The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5 also at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Internment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder with a light lunch to follow back at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.

Yes, Sharon has left us a legacy of her warmth and genuine charm that we will miss, but should try to be. It all came so natural for her, much to our benefit. Her smile and greeting could light up your day even when clouds existed. Bob and I wish to sincerely offer our prayers and condolences.
