Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory - Shelby Obituary

Shirley Ann Bridges, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC. She was a daughter of the late Troy Durham Bridges and Lillian Elizabeth Wix Bridges.

Shirley worked for the Council on Aging Senior Center in Shelby for more than eight years before retiring. She then spent time volunteering for the Extension and Community Association (ECA), and serving her church, Boiling Springs Baptist, in different capacities. She was a member for over 30 years, a Sunday School teacher, and well-known in the community for her strong faith. Shirley was an avid reader, often reading more than one book at a time, and a life-long learner. She loved to travel across NC and surrounding states with her daughter, Elizabeth. Shirley appreciated learning everything she could about the history of the towns she visited, as well as eating different foods common to the specific area, and going to art museums and galleries. She also loved shopping during her travels. As family was extremely important to Shirley, she would take time each year to travel with them and visit relatives in Florida. She dedicated many hours during family vacation to solving jigsaw puzzles. The more pieces, the better.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Pack; son, Wade Pack and his wife, Wendy; grandchildren, Johnathan and Ryan Pack; sister, Jane Garrison and her husband, James; and nephews, Jim Garrison and his wife, Kelly and their sons, Tripp and Tanner, Joseph Garrison and Will Garrison. Additional family, Gay Stewart, Skip, Jimmy, Lori, Noah Cain and Yvonne Sain.

To honor the life of Ms. Bridges a memorial service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 1 o'clock, officiated by Rev. Keith Dixon. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service in the sanctuary of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. The service will be live streamed at: https://www.facebook.com/bsbcnc

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church, 307 S. Main Street, Shelby, NC 28152.

Not sure what to say?

Shirley was a vibrant and forward looking person even in our high school years. We worked together on the high school year book our senior year. She took some bold steps that have endured: She led the first year book for our high school to be printed by lithography rather than engraved. Today, that may not sound like much, but then it was almost unheard of. She also was editor over the first color photo be in our school's year book.

In addition to being all that, she was a...

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard but always near,so loved,so missed,so very dear.

My prayers for the family
She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She will be missed. No

There are no words to describe the loss we all are feeling. There are so many wonderful memories that I have of Shirley. She wasn't just loved by me, but also by my family. She's been there for me in good times and sad times but always with something inspirational to comfort me. She knew who to communicate with more than just words. She can give you a look, a smile, a laughter. She also had a way of making sure that whatever you may have given her or done for her was absolutely the...

She will be missed!
