Shirley Madrey Obituary
Portsmouth - Shirley Mae Madrey, 75 years young, went home to be with her Savior on November 13, 2011. She was born on June 20, 1936 to the late Frankie Lamar and Charles W. McAfee. Shirley was a devoted Christian, and other than working a few years at Churchland Village Flower Shop, dedicated her life to creating a loving home for her family. She loved taking trips, gardening, decorating, and shopping with her best friend Gail.
Loved ones left to cherish her memory are her husband of 48 years, Bill Madrey; son, Daniel Madrey; daughter, Connie Burnell; grandchildren, Cara Cauldwell and Ryan Burnell; great-grandchildren, Kellen and Logan Cauldwell; brother, Charles McAfee; and many extended family and lifelong friends.
A funeral service will be held at Pinecrest Baptist Church on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 2 PM by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com

I think of you each day and will miss your kind words and special laugh. I'm grateful was able to show you some comfort in your last weeks and spend some time with you while you were sitting in your chair these last four years. On?e day we'll meet again. Till then, rest in the arms of Jesus!

Even now, I see Shirley, with the warmth and kindness she always exhibited...shaking her head with a smile at another comedic comment from Bill and wondering what he will say next. Providing companionship to my beloved sister Gail, my dear sweet late sister, Myra, and my brother-in-law, Johnny. It was always so nice to know that Shirley was in this world. Her loving grace to members of my family and friends help provide the memories which leaves the footprints we share and cherish. Good Bye and

Shirley's poise and grace was an inspiration to me growing up. My condolences to her family and friends and I hope you find the comfort that I do knowing that she is now at peace. She will be missed dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Ms. Madrey as my Sunday School teacher at Surry Street Baptist Church many years ago. A very sweet lady whom will be missed by those who's paths she crossed.
