Shirley A. Messaros, 72, of Irwin, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the UPMC East Hospital, Monroeville.  She was born June 9, 1953, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Roi) Messaros.  Prior to her retirement Shirley was a teacher in the Jeannette School District for over 35 years.  She was a member of the Ascension Church Jeannette. Shirley loved the beach and enjoyed traveling with her companion Dave, including a yearly trip to Cabo San Lucas, multiple cruises, including cruises in the Mediterranean, and over the last 40 plus years the “Girls” trip to Myrtle Beach S.C. Shirley loved her home town of Jeannette and was always supporting and routing for her Jayhawks. 


In addition to her parents Shirley was predeceased by her brother Michael Messaros. 


She is survived by her life companion David Detore; a sister Trish Persichetti of Perryopolis PA; nephews Logan and Michael Persichetti, and Austin Messaros; a niece Monica Messaros; a great nephew Luca Persichetti; and numerous other nieces and nephews. 


Friends will be received 4 to 7pm Thursday in the John V. Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 228 North 2nd St. Jeannette.  A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00am Friday in the Ascension Church, 615 Division St. Jeannette, with Fr. Job Foote, OSB, as celebrant. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, www.komen.org, or 13770 Noel Rd. Shirley RIP to Dave and Trish and the family you have our deepest sympathy we grew up on the south side then were neighbors on Lewis Ave she fought a great battle she was a great teacher who was well respected you will be in our prayers

Shirley was generous: She often let me and Mike cruise town in her Pinto!
Shirley was easy going: She put up with a bunch of obnoxious guys in her basement at Mike's weekly Poker Nights!
Shirley was fun: at IUP Homecomings and her summer house parties!
Shirley was amazing!

We knew Shirley from High School and IUP. She was a great person and will be missed. RIP

Shirley was such a kind and sobbed pertain. Always had a smile on her and she will be greatly missed
