Shirley's smile and happy demeanor will be missed in the Hospitality Room at Roswell Park, where she volunteered every Wednesday. She loved interacting with patients and their families, and the love for her family came through strongly in all these conversations. As her fellow volunteer, I will miss her each week, but, importantly, from our weekly discussions, it is important for me to convey to the family how much she loved all of you. Family was indeed her strength. With my deep condolences on your loss. Margot Ip

You left on a Friday the 13th, which is fitting that you wouldn´t ever make anyone sad on a day they actually like.

It´s been two days of figuring out how to deal with losing our very own sunshine, and while you taught us all to lean on each other and to look for the shiny spots in life, boy, do I miss my sunshine.

You are such an important (and happy) part of our daily lives, so the reminder of our loss is everywhere. From the big stuff to the little stuff, having you a part of it always made it better, happier, sweeter, and more beautiful.

And don´t get me started on how you are sunshine in human form. I don´t think you have ever been mean or grumpy in your life. You are a constant ray of warmth, love, and happy times. Unfortunately, you are just too wonderful, and we would never have enough time of that, so it stings big time to lose it.
But you would hate all this crying over you (though I may be annoying you with it at the moment - ha), so I promise to honor you how you´d like it. I call it "What Would Shirley Do," and it´s a daily reminder to be kinder, more generous, and enjoy life´s beauty.

Grandma, you´ve been my girl since day one. I used to cry when I was little and make my mom turn the car around if I couldn´t remember if I kissed you goodbye, and I may just have that feeling forever, but I also promise to try to live how you would want us to - loving, happy, and with a bit of lipstick on. I love you.
