Sotirios "Sam" Savvopoulos

YORK Sotirios "Sam" Savvopoulos, 81, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Manor Care Health Services - North. He is the husband of Eleni Karanicolas Savvopoulos. Sam was born in Patra, Greece on February 13, 1931, a son of the late Andreas and Dinysia Savvopoulos. He was a retired self employed restaurateur. Sam is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annun-ciation and AHEPA. He is also a veteran of the Greek Army. In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by a son, Andreas Savvopoulos and wife, Angela of Dover; two daughters, Tina Margetas and husband, Harry and Anita Spanakis both of York; four grandchildren, George Margetas, Sotirios Margetas, Eleni Cordero and Sotirios Cordero; and a sister, Anna Tsinakias of Athens, Greece. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation 2500 Pine Grove Road, York. Officiating will be his pastor, Rev. Andrew N. Tsikitas. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. A viewing will be Thursday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greek Church of the Annunciation 2500 Pine Grove Road, York, PA 17403.
