Stanley Bober Obituary

Stanley M. Bober passed away on April 5, 2012 in Del Ray Beach Florida.

He was born on June 17, 1932 in Akron Ohio and was a life-long resident up until recently when he relocated full time to Florida but he never gave up his ties to Akron.

Preceded to death by his parents, Nathan and Jean Bober; his sister, Monie (Bober) Markey; he is survived by his beloved wife, Esther of 52 years; his children, Mark (Lyn) Bober, Carolyn (David) Kalish, and Brian Bober; as well as six grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly.

Stan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a leader in the Akron Jewish community as well as the general community. He served as the first president of the Shaw Jewish Community Center after its move from Balch Street to White Pond and was instrumental in making the relocation a reality. It is fitting that his funeral be held at the JCC as it's an institution that he was always proud of his impact on the success of the institution. He was considered an elder statesman within the Jewish and general community. In addition to Board President of the Jewish Community Center, Stan was general chairman of Akron's Israel at 50 Community Celebration, is a former United Way Board of Trustee member and budget panel member, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Akron Jewish Community Federation, past officer of the Akron Jewish Community Federation, former chairman of the Akron Jewish Community Center Endowment Fund, former member of the Board of Directors of Jewish Centers Association of North America, and a former member of the Board of Trustees of Cascade CDC Corp. He was also an appointee to the White House Counsel on Small Business.

Stan was a Certified Public Accountant and the founder / managing partner of Bober, Markey, Fedorovich, a prominent CPA firm which he founded in 1959 and is presently among the largest local firms in the area. He remained with the firm until his retirement in 2001.

His specialties were estate planning, business transition planning and family business issues. But what Stan's clients and colleagues valued most was his role as their trusted advisor and his knowledge of complex advisory services. He treated his clients' problems like they were his own. Whether it was clients, family, or friends; he was always extremely caring and passionate about helping and coaching those who sought his advice.

In addition, Stan was chairman of the board of First State Savings and Loan, a publicly held company where he led the acquisition. He has also had equity and management interests in several entrepreneurial ventures ranging from home building and apartment management to mining. He led the acquisition and participated in the ownership of a US Steel subsidiary known as Michigan Limestone Operations.

A 1954 magna cum laude graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, Stan was with the U.S. Army, primarily stationed in Europe, and subsequently with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company CPAs until forming Bober, Markey, Fedorovich & Company. His was a graduate of Buchtel High School in Akron where he served as president of his senior class.

His funeral will be held on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shaw Jewish Community Center at 750 White Pond Drive in Akron. Donations can be made to the Stanley Bober Memorial Fund at the Shaw Jewish Community Center.

To The Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Even though our business, Kenmore Tailors, is closed now, Stan was a great influence and advisor to my Father Jack during our long existence. And as a neighbor, I spent many years at the Bober home and enjoyed every minute of it. Stan was a great man.
