Stanley Sarrazin Obituary

Stanley John Sarrazin went to be with our heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. He was born in New Orleans on November 13, 1930 to his loving parents John J. Sarrazin and Melvina Bernard Sarrazin who predeceased him. He is survived by son Adam D. Sarrazin, grandson Stanly Adam Sarrazin, sister Alice Sarrazin Brennan, niece Kathy Brennan, nephews Ed and David Brennan, several great nephews and nieces, former wife Cynthia Sarrazin, and many friends. Stanley was a celebrated and beloved classically trained pianist and teacher. After graduating from Warren Easton High School, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He received his Bachelors of Music and Masters of Music at Florida State University, Tallahassee, and Southeastern University, Hammond, Louisiana. He continued his music studies in Germany with recording concert pianist Karl Engel, and in Colorado Springs with conductor Antonia Brico. As a musician and teacher, he was active in New York City and the New Orleans area. His involvements included theatre music direction at Le Petit, former Music Carnival, Playmakers and other venues, chamber music, hotel, country club and private occasion music, composing, accompanist, and church musician. He influenced many private students, coaching several for contests, and college. With a distinctive deep voice, he did voice-overs and announcing for radio and commercials. He was a piano technician, maintained a piano shop in New Orleans, and was Liberace's piano tuner when he came to New Orleans in the 1980's. Those who knew Stanley enjoyed his quick witticisms, command of the German language, occasional outbursts in French, intellect, positivity, and joy of life. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. To all you family and friends of Stanley: from 1961 to 1963 in Greensboro N.C., I, beginning from my thirteenth year, was fortunate to be a piano student of Stanley's. He was s roommate of William Alton at the time. He taught me so much - not just piano playing, but about music and life - all given generously and often wittily, even hilariously. One of the handful of defining personal influences in my life: no Stanley, no Allan as professional musician. My parents were crazy about him too. I have searched for him online at various times but only two days ago did I learn of his passing and that I would never be able to thank him except in prayers. Please accept my heartfelt condolence for your loss of Stanley and my thanks for caring for him. Allan Dameron, Pianist and Conductor, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle.
