To Steve's family and extended family. Steve and I were very close friends since we met at Harvard University. Dear Members of Steve's family, friends, colleagues and students, I was deeply saddened to learn of Steve's sudden passing. Please know that I share your sorrow at the loss of this brilliant professor whose thoughtful analyses and contributions took him beyond the classroom to the national stage. Just wanted to say I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. My condolences go out to the Family. I am a neighbor of Steve's in the HT. Many will miss him there as well. He and I have had some good conversations in the past. No matter if he was in a hurry to go teach a class or, hurrying to go wherever, Steve would always take a moment to stop and talk. He had a positive outlook on life and will be sorely missed.

Steve was an inspiring teacher inside and outside the university, as well as being a wonderfully compassionate and humble human being. I will miss all these things and more. It was an honor to have learned from him.
