Steven John Hilberg, 80, of Northampton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenburg. Born in Moore Township, Steven was a son of the late Marcus and Beatrice Hilberg (Mann).
After graduating from Northampton High School, he attended the Ambler Campus of Temple University, where he earned an associate of science degree. After a brief employment on the Doris Duke Estate in Somerville, NJ, he was drafted into the Army and spent two years as a military policeman in Germany. On his days off, he spent them traveling to most European countries. After returning to the states, he was employed as head of campus grounds at Lehigh University. He later became the director of environmental services for various school districts under contract to Service Master. He ended his career by working for the Northampton Area School District and Cedar Crest College.
Throughout his life, Steven found great joy in learning about local history and the Penna. Dutch Culture, a passion he shared with the Governor Wolf Historical Society and the Kentucky Rifle Association. In his youth, Steven was a skilled horseman and a passionate skier, embracing the thrill of the outdoors with enthusiasm. His love for adventure and exploring the rich heritage of his community fueled his spirit and endeared him to all those who crossed his path.
He will be missed by sisters: Harriet Meckes (John) of Northampton, Bernice Bollman (Phillip) of Pittsburgh; along with many nieces and nephews. Steven was predeceased by sisters: Phyillis Henshue and Dorothy Edwards.
