In 2025, I still remember Steve with respect, admiration and fondness. Dr. Schleifer was a guide and inspiration to many. May his memory be a blessing and comfort.

I was saddened to learn of Dr. Schleifer´s passing today and want to extend my sincere condolences to the family. Dr. Schleifer was my teacher and mentor at NJMS for many years and I count him one of the greatest influences in my career as a psychiatrist. Not only was he a great teacher and physician but also a wonderful and kind human being.

Dr. Schleifer was my first psychiatrist (1981) when I was a pre-med student doing research at the Department of Neoplastic Diseases at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC. He returned every call I made to his service, no matter the day or hour. I'm 63 years old now and wanted to send him a message today when I just learned of his passing. I'm unable to verbalize my pain. I cannot imagine how the family whose picture he displayed prominently in his office must feel. His wife was stunning...

Dr Schleifer was my PI and mentor when I was at graduate school at NJMS. He helped me amplify my love for medicine and justice for the underserved. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. Your memory will live on in all who knew you.
