Miss Devries was my counselor in Lowell. I was sad to hear of her passing on the Lowell Alumni Facebook page. Only now did I think to search for her obituary because I am writing about her in my personal statement for grad school. Miss Devries, you are the reason I chose to go into nursing and I will continue to remember all the wise words and stories we shared in your tiny office with the sandbox. Thank you for touching the lives of many.

As my "Big Sister" at San Jose State, Sue encouraged me to stay in school when I thought I wanted to quit. After teaching for 38 years and now retired for 10 more years I still am greatful for your gentle encouragement and guidance. THANK YOU, Sue!

Sue visited Ireland twice with our cousin Ann Dougherty, what fond memories we have. We loved her very much and she loved our family especially my later mother Nonie

I knew Susan later on in her life and took care of her as her illness began to progress. Susan and I would sit down to talk about life and she would often ask me how my studies were in nursing school. Susan was different from all the other people I took care of because she always wanting to know how I was doing and how my day was going. Her bright smile and the great talks we had was what made me look forward to coming into work. I will greatly miss Susan and wish that I could have seen her...

You were a delight to know, sharing your passions for educating kids, sports, career development of all SFUSD high school kids, loved our country music together, your place up at the river was so special...I will miss all of this but know your legacy will live on in all of the lives you touched - including mine! Thanks!

God Bless a very great person and a beautiful lady inside and out! I knew Sue from Mission, Lincoln, and Lowell. I worked for SFUSD, but really knew her from her years with Lincoln as a swim teacher at Larsen Pool. She, along with Dennis Cooney, Gus Buono, Dave Low, were part of our "family" at the pool where I worked parttime for many years. Art, Kevin,Mike, Charlie Sava, and all the rest thought the world of Sue. She was always a dear friend as well as a great teacher. We all had dinner...
