Miss Devries was my counselor in Lowell. I was sad to hear of her passing on the Lowell Alumni Facebook page. Only now did I think to search for her obituary because I am writing about her in my personal statement for grad school. Miss Devries, you are the reason I chose to go into nursing and I will continue to remember all the wise words and stories we shared in your tiny office with the sandbox. Thank you for touching the lives of many.

As my "Big Sister" at San Jose State, Sue encouraged me to stay in school when I thought I wanted to quit. After teaching for 38 years and now retired for 10 more years I still am greatful for your gentle encouragement and guidance. THANK YOU, Sue!

Sue visited Ireland twice with our cousin Ann Dougherty, what fond memories we have. We loved her very much and she loved our family especially my later mother Nonie

I knew Susan later on in her life and took care of her as her illness began to progress. Susan and I would sit down to talk about life and she would often ask me how my studies were in nursing school. Susan was different from all the other people I took care of because she always wanting to know how I was doing and how my day was going. Her bright smile and the great talks we had was what made me look forward to coming into work. I will greatly miss Susan and wish that I could have seen her one more time. But I am happy that her suffering is over and she is now resting in paradise.

You were a delight to know, sharing your passions for educating kids, sports, career development of all SFUSD high school kids, loved our country music together, your place up at the river was so special...I will miss all of this but know your legacy will live on in all of the lives you touched - including mine! Thanks!

God Bless a very great person and a beautiful lady inside and out! I knew Sue from Mission, Lincoln, and Lowell. I worked for SFUSD, but really knew her from her years with Lincoln as a swim teacher at Larsen Pool. She, along with Dennis Cooney, Gus Buono, Dave Low, were part of our "family" at the pool where I worked parttime for many years. Art, Kevin,Mike, Charlie Sava, and all the rest thought the world of Sue. She was always a dear friend as well as a great teacher. We all had dinner at "Chinatown" at times and elsewhere and Sue was a wonderful part of all that. We stayed in touch until illness forced her to retire. I often thought of her and wondered how she was. She had a way with students, gave more of herself than anyone I ever met (even bringing back a bottle of Paddy's Irish Whiskey for Mike and myself when you couldn't get it here, on her trip to Ireland some years ago). I am so sorry to hear of her passing, but glad her suffering is past. Sue, we will all meet again for crab and clams someday at whatever passes for "Chinatown" in the next world! Rest in peace Sue. Love, Mike

Heartfelt condolences to the family of Miss Devries, who I fondly remember from Mission High School back in 1973. She was a wonderful and kind teacher, who always greeted you with a smile! These are memories that we carry with us always. Rest in peace with the angels!

How many memories of all the good that Sue did for the students at Lowell and of all the help she provided me when I was sick. She was right there with practical help for which I am always grateful. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Miss DeVries was my high school gym teacher. I regret not thanking her personally for the wonderful leadership/gym class she taught at Mission High School-1974. She inspired us to be our best selves. My condolences to her loved ones.

Sue was a great friend and always upbeat. She was a star in our SYETP summer program. Always helping kids who needed it the most. She was also a fine gardner :). You will be missed by more than can be imagined. A life well lived.
