Susan Henkin Obituary
Susan died peacefully at home January 5, after a short illness. She was born to Robert and Mary Holty in Aurora, IL. The family moved to Hinsdale, IL where Susan graduated from high school in 1963. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where she later received her Master's degree in French literature. While at Illinois, she met her husband, Charles Henkin. They were married in October, 1970. Following their move to Washington, DC in March, 1971, Sue introduced her husband to skiing and golden retrievers- their ninth golden is living now..
Sue was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, a dear friend, and family member to siblings, their spouses, nephews, nieces and cousins. Prior to the birth of their first child and settling in Arlington, VA in 1976. Sue held various positions as teacher, Congressional staff aid, and staff at an international treaty organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
Sue worked at Arlington County Library as the children grew. Her life as mother and grandmother ("Bubbie" to the grandkids) revolved around the family, friends, reading mystery novels, and cooking.
She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Charles Henkin; daughter Sara Elizabeth Borchard (David, Theo and Nathan) of London, England, son Alan Gerrard Henkin (Gretchen) of Jacksonville, FL and his son Sam in Boulder, CO; brother Michael Holty (Odette) of Newport, RI and sister Martha Whelan (Tom) of Minnetonka, MN
A service will be held Thursday at National Funeral Home and Memorial Park with interment in the King David Cemetery, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042,
